I bet you dollars to doughnuts she is once again trying to get you riled up because she has some kind of problem with people on pain meds. I would absolutely call the head pharmacist and complain. She has NO BUSINESS doinf that job and making those comments. If there were some shortage of this widely used medication there would be notifications to customers and to doctors.

Next time, tell her you want someone else to wait n you. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR

It almost sounds like she's getting her jollies saying it to you since this is the second time she's commented on that med.... unless of course she's right. Why would it be getting harder for them to get it?

I agree 100% with AZsue and I would tell the manager how much stress and worry this has caused you because your medication might not be available any longer.

This lady just sounds like a big mouth that has no business in your business, I would be hoping mad and she would know it.

Count your meds and make sure there all there. You never know what could happen with someone like that behind the counter.

The pharmacy has no say in if you can get your pain medication or not. Usually, a person who does not understand chronic pain makes comments like that. They assume you are an addict. If your doctor has no problems prescribing the medication then there should be no problems because it is his license on the line. If the insurance company has a problem with paying for it, that is a different matter. Some insurance companies regulate amounts which complicates the doctors job and the patients care. As for the dangers of Percocet, there are usually a few concerns. One, of course, is dependency which can occur, however as long as you take it only when needed is usually not a problem. #2 is the affect it has on the central nervous system and its ability to affect your breathing, so make sure you keep a notebook of when you are taking it and never take it sooner than recommended. #3 is the fact that there is tylenol (acetomenaphine) in Percocet which can damage your liver. Make sure that your doctor does regular blood tests to check your liver function, it is important. I too am on Percocet for pain, but if I did not take it, I would lose my mind and be unable to even move. Just use proper precautions as with any medicine. I would ask your friendly pharmacist if she is having a problem with the insurance company. If she is not, ask her to keep her opinions to herself and speak with the head pharmacist to have someone else serve you. If all else fails, you can completely change the pharmacy you go to. best to you...Pam

If you are truly wondering if Percocet is getting very difficult to obtain at that pharmacy, I would go "in person", not over the phone and speak directly to the Head Pharmacist. Tell him of your concerns. He should be honest and direct with you.

I worked in a Pharmacy all of last year, and when someone called "questioning" narcotics over the phone it was not taken seriously. Good Luck!

let us not forget those wonderful HIPPA laws that absolutely forbid her from discussing it.... it is not her place period. I would remind the pharmacy manager to refresh that person on HIPPA as that can be some pretty hefty fines for the store and those concerned...

I agree with the others. The Hippa laws should keep her moth shut where others can hear her in line. Unless it is to explain a med. Her OPINION IS NOT SUPPOSED TO MATTER! I would call the manager of the pharmacy, and tell they what she said too. I doubt if your med is getting harder to get as its been on the market FOREVER!

Hey, thanks all. I called my docs office and asked the nurse about if she had heard anything like that. She said no and not to worry about something like that.I too, think she is just trying to prevent me from taking the med or just trying to make me worry. I already am going to a different pharmacy...usually. The prescrition was writtn in the same building that pharmacy is in so, I thought it would just be quicker to pick it up there. This really angers me to hear of the pharmacy tech! I agree with the ones who brought up the HIPPA law. Please consider saying something to store manager! Even a registered pharmacist would be crossing the line to say some of these things.

I also want to add that my pharmacist told me back in Dec. that Vicodin (hydrocodone) was getting hard for them to get from the supplier. I get 120/month, and that month they were only allotted 500 tablets, (which they very nicely reserved my 120 out of). Don't know what's going on with these 'controlled drugs', but some of us have to take them. Right now I'm in the middle of a flare-up of FM and as hard as I've tried I just cannot even cut down.

I Do work in a hospital and do notice doctors weening patients off percocets a lot than any other narcotics. and I do know if you are taken percocets for long periods of time it can cause kidney damage and liver disease so yes percocets are getting harder to prescribe.

You said she is a tech. that is a fancy word for helper. She is not the pharmacist and she has no right speaking to you about anything but the price to ring it up. You need to talk with the pharmacist and the store manager. I am tired of these techs trying to act like they know anything.

I would definately report her and switch pharmacies. You dont need this. You should never feel trapped and bullied into validating your rxes with anyone. Thats between you and the doctors, noone else.

I work in a pharmacy, and I can tell you that currently it is plain oxycodone that is hard for us to get. We can get all of the oxycodone/APAP that we need (generic Percocet). That being said, it may be different for your pharmacy based upon their supplier, etc. I would call and speak with one of the pharmacists and check on the information she gave you. HIPAA in the pharmacy has to do with disclosure of protected health information. If she is talking to you about you, I don't believe she is violating any HIPAA rule.
