I am on a message board on the Runner's World website. I started a thread in the health section wondering if there were other runners out there with fibromyalgia and how they coped.
I got no responses for weeks, then finally someone responded yesterday. What they wrote was something like "Maybe what you need is a pacifier, or better yet a magic potion, for your fictitious disease."
It made me really mad, but I didn't feel like engaging with the person so I didn't respond. I just thought it was really rude and uncalled for.
I'm sure some of you have encountered people who don't "believe" in fibromyalgia. I know some doctors don't. I just don't understand what's not to believe in! The symptoms are very real!

One person said If I *really* needed it that SS would pay for it. Which is completely FALSE. They don't even pay for Guide Dogs for the Blind. Let alone someone with mental and physical challenges. And most organizations do not cross train the support I need or cost so much money (6k-20k). So I am Owner-Training. And my mom is helping me find the right trainer to help us find the right dog and everything. Because since I lost the help of my previous dog I haven't been able to really do anything anymore..
I even got comments today at the grocery store riding one of the electric carts.. I have a cane on me too.. And I'm not speaking right due to my cold.. "You don't see that everyday".. It's this kind of shit that gets me pissed off. I'm used to the Service Dog shit and can stand up for myself with that. But when I don't have my SD there to help me stand up for myself I'm just sitting there dumb and pretending I didn't hear anything or just crying inside.
I'm sorry people have to be so mean.
Honestly, I don't know what I would do without this group of caring fibro sufferers here on DS who understand.
This is where I come for comfort and support; idiots like the one who posted back to you, Daisy, don't even deserve a response. And, there is always karma. ;-)
