Fibromyalgia Support Group
You're not alone in your pain. Fibromyalgia is a condition that can be difficult to diagnose and manage. If you're trying to cope with pain throughout your body, sleep problems, general fatigue, or other common fibromyalgia symptoms, you're in the right place. The community is here for you to talk about therapies and share your challenges.

I've had fibro for at least ten years and the most effective pain relef I've had found was Aleve and warm water aquatic therapy. About two weeks ago I had my first office visit with a cardiologist. No problems with my heart...just trying to get some adea of my overall health. AS they often do, he asked for a list of all medications and supplementals and at the end of my exam he gave me an evaluation. Everything was normal but he then instructed me to STOP taking Aleve. When I asked him why, he claimed that it caused heart problems. My question to all of you is have you ever been told that yourself? Would you also please share what medication(S) help you? Thanks, Marilyn

Another day, another ouchie? My bruised achilles tendon (don't ask) makes my foot numb. Wonky on meds, whacked it.Now, as to fibro:A lot of reports are going around some parts of social media that fibro (and dang near anything else) are caused by post-Covid, post-flu, post-vaccinations, post-pick-something.1. Your risk of death or serious complications beyond "ow, that shot hurt!" are typically...

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.

I'm torn. The family of drugs that gives me best help is called COX-2 inhibitors and the best of them (Bextra and Vioxx) were banned b/c of the increased risk. Note that this was in generally elderly people, however, andthat many of us weren't given an option.
Myd oc has had me on the max daily dose of Celebrex every day for 6 years. I'm pushing 50. It helps "enough". It's a trade-off.
The biggest issue is usually GI --- so I think you need to talk to your doc a bit more about the specifics on WHY he's concerned about Aleve and your heart. Are they really connected, is he (or she) spooked by the COX-2 drug reputation (Aleve is the only OTC version I think you can get in the US whefre I live)...
The increased risk of heart attack and/or stroke, btw, in the studies was often far less than you get from, say, something like smoking cigarettes, having diabetes, alcohol overconsumption.... Soooo.... Ask why, okay? What's the specific concern, why is it a concern, what do the docs suggest for pain relief in its place?
The primary medications used to treat Fibromyalgia these days are Cymbalta, Lyrica and Savella. Gabapentin is also used but tends to be more old school. I use a low dose of Cymbalta. Only certain classes of prescribed medications are effective for the pain caused by Fibromyalgia.
It is also very important to use a sleep aid. Fibromyalgia interrupts the deep sleep cycle with short bursts of high intensity brain activity. Your muscles require deep sleep in order to recover from the days acitivities. No deep sleep means higher levels of pain. I use an OTC call Hylands Calms Forte and another product called MidNite. Alteril is another option that I have tried and liked. No hangover effect from these. I alternate when one isn't working as well. Some people like Melatonin but the hangover effect really bothers me.
We recommend the book "Fibromyalgia for Dummies" to everyone. You can find it on Amazon. It will give you a comprehensive overview of this illness and a myriad of ways to try and manage it. Take care.
