Please be careful not to overdo - take care of yourself! Soft hugs, Deb
3 to 3-1/2 cups all-purpose flour, divided
1/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 pkg. (1/4 oz) active dry yeast
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1-1/4 cups eggnog
1/4 c. butter or margarine
1/2 c. dried cranberries
GLAZE:
1 c. confecioners' sugar
1 to 2 Tbs. eggnog
1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
Dash of nutmeg
In a mixing bowl, combine 1-1/2 cups of flour, sugar, salt, yeast and nutmeg; set aside. In a saucepan, heat eggnog and butter to 120-130 (the butter does not need to melt); add to flour mixture. Beat on low until moistened; beat on medium for 3 min. Stir in cranberries and enough remaining flour to make a soft dough. Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 min. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour. Punch dough down; divide into thirds. Shape each third into a 16' rope. Braid ropes on a greased baking sheet; seal ends. Cover and let rise until nearly doubled, about 30 min. Bake at 350 for 25-30 min. or until golden. Immediately remove from pan to a wire rack to cool completely. combine the first three glaze ingredients; drizzle over braid. Dust with nutmeg.
This is really good, especially if its warm when you eat it!! It also makes a beautiful presentation as the cranberries show through a little and the drizzling of the icing , its just as pretty as it is good.
i have deleted some things from my tradition list. i won't be making popcorn balls or the big cheese ball!
I found my dehydrator and have the beef jerky cooking. And I hope to get the peanut brittle done today. Wish me luck cause I sure am sleepy today. Hope you enjoy the bread if you decide to try it.
Thanks everyone for you replies.
