I was finally diagnosed a month ago with fibromyalgia. After months of bouncing from md to md (one md asked if I thought I had Zika) I finally got a diagnosis. I have been on Cymbalta for a little over a month and Neurontin. I still want to jump out a window. How long does it take for the meds to start helping? The pain is excruciating. I don't know what to do. I have been in the medical field for all my adult career and to know there is no "cure" for this madness is so frustrating. I just need to connect with those that understand because no one else in my life does...

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.

A key point to remember is that the longer a chronic pain cycle has continued, the harder it is to manage or stop. The purpose of pain management is to restore some quality of life to the patient. Stopping the pain altogether is not possible or you would not be able to function at all.
You should also be on a medication for sleep. Fibromyalgia interrupts the deep sleep cycle with short bursts of high intensity brain activity. Your muscles require deep sleep in order to repair themselves from the days activities. No deep sleep means higher levels of pain. This is a critical part of managing this complex illness. We generally recommend that you have a sleep study done too,
Our go-to book on this board is "Fibromyalgia for Dummies." It is available on Amazon. It will give you a comprehensive overview of this illness and a lot of ways to try and manage it. The book is also a great educational tool for family, friends and sometimes clueless doctors.
We have a daily check in hosted by our lovely spokesmodel and brainiac Leo. You are very welcome to join us. Leo regales us with interesting trivia and tales from the home front every day. It is a good way to get to know everyone or you can just read and lurk. Look for the Puma avatar and the day of the week in the heading.
We get it - you are not alone!
