Hello all,
I do not ha fibro but do have a neuro muscular disease called myasthina Gravis, which means grave muscle weakness.
I know that many of you hear are very familiar with pain meds and hoped you could give me some personal experience guidance on my question.
I do monthly infusions of immugobbulan (sp) to help increase my ability to walk and use my muscles more effectively. Unfortunately, one of the side effects of this infusion treatment is horrific migraines. After my first infusion, I was actually diagnosed with aseptic meningitis.
With this being said, your normal pain meds won't even begin to touch it. I have an arsonal of narcotics that I have for both these migraines and back issues I have. The problem I run into, is that they don't work unless I take large doses of them.
The only way to get rid of the infusion migraine is the ER. This consist of 2 doses of dilaudid, benedryl, steroid, phenagren, Toradol and a muscle relaxer. Even with this much medication, I am still not knocked out.
I don't know about it but can the body be resistant to narcotics and it take more to work for some? My biggest fear is we just moved to another city and I don't want the new ER staff to think I'm a drug seeker but that is the only place I can get relief! Do you believe a pain managment dr would be able to help me at all?

You can be tested - ask your doctor.
About the ER people thinking you are a drug addict...get a note from your doctor about the infusion treatment causing the severe migraine. Be sure you get the note each time you get the infusion, so the date appears on the note. That should relieve the doubts of the ER employees.

I'm sorry you have so much pain with MG. I would suggest that you get a pain doctor to help you, too.
Do you know there is a Myasthina Gravis group here and it is very active? Have a look and see what you think. One of my friends from DS has MG.
