I had to look to make sure I hadn't replied to this. Fog sucks tonight.
Neurontin - the first time I took it, my Rheumy put me on it and he put me on 300mg three times a day.
I was a zombie. Did it help the pain? Yes.
As my husband put it - six weeks of this and I ought to be able to chew my own arm off and not feel it.
I had to quit it - originally. B/c honestly? I was really really out there. I mean beyond space.
Well, my Internist started me back on it - at bed time. It seems to be helping. Now. In conjunction with my other meds. I think it's the combination.
But, I'm supposed to have doubled my dose at bed time. The last to nights? GREAT. Slept better, definately more comfortable. But, unfortunately... I'm seeing some of those zombie like things coming back. I feel like I'm drunk or stoned in the morning.
Very clueless in the morning - until my Provigil kicks in.
We'll see.
Yes. It does seem to help the pain though.
Taking it at bedtime though - that helps alot.
I have had no side affects from it.
I take 300 mg at bedtime. It basically takes the edge off. Neurontin does not work for me when im having a flare.
When I first started taking neuro I could only take 1 at bedtime.I was tired in the mornings until my body got used to the neuro. I am now up to 3 at bedtime. With no side affects at all.
HOWEVER.
i find myself needing larger and larger doses for the same effect. what is the largest safe dose one can take? i think my doc is stopping at 300 x 3; i've been past that for ages.
A very important thing to remember while on Neurontin: avoid anything high in magnesium or fiber for two hours before taking it & 2 hours after taking it, as both will block its effectiveness.
One last thing; it hasn't helped with my other pain, but the other pain I can deal with--the sciatica was hell on earth, & I'm so grateful to have found relief.
Thanks for posting, I wrote down all the meds and will do some research. Every little bit of info helps us!
