Hi everyone
This is not something I would normally ask for, but it's the only thing I can think of to help. My best friend has just been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer, not a good one to have, if there is a good one. She is a fitness instructor, so extremely fit, eats really well, doesn't drink or smoke - it is just so wrong on so many levels, and so unfair.
She starts Chemo next week and I feel so helpless.
The hard part for me to come to terms with, is that we fought just after New Year's and after 8 years of being close like sisters, we stopped talking. I can never forgive myself for not being there when she went through the initial hospitalisation and treatment. I phoned as soon as I heard and I'm going to see her Wednesday. I just want to be there for her and her family, I love her so much..... I'm just gutted. She has two sons and a husband who just dote on her and I worry terribly for them.
Anyway, you guys are so generous with your prayers and good wishes, I'm hoping you will send some her way. She is a good person who should be on this earth for many more years to come.

Hopefully, you will be a strong support system for your friend, as I am sure you will be.
Healing thoughts and prayers for her, her family and of course, for you, dear one.
This is not the automatic death sentence it was a few years ago. They are even doing pancreatic transplants now, and at her age she would have a lot more treatment options than someone much older or not in good health otherwise.
You might want to do some research and see what's going on in your country that she might benefit from. Let her trust her doctor - when you're in that situation that's really important, but maybe you can give her some questions to ask that she might not have thought about or known about otherwise.

Oncce again I thank you all, and for those who have lost a love one to this insidious disease, thank you for sharing, and my condolences.

I've just got back from visiting with her. Life is so freaking cruel.... she has blood clots through her lungs and in her legs, and she's having trouble breathing on and off. The tumours are in both her pancreas and her liver, and her liver is very swollen. She can only sleep on one side, and is having night sweats. She has to wear compression bandages, so thankfully it's winter here. For someone who literally, never stopped, to see her barely be able to get out of the house is just heart breaking.
She is handling it really well, but is really concerned for her kids.
I'm not handling it very well right this minute, I need to have a really big cry, get it out of my system, then get on with things, and be there to support her and her family, which thankfully I can.
Hopefully the chemo will shrink things down and get rid of the clots so that she can have some form of normality for a while longer.
Once again, I thank you all for your support.
I hope that you are able to find peace of mind in all of this. I do understand how you feel. My friend Cath has been on her last journey for about 9 months now and it is hard to watch. But I have come to peace with it and I hope you find peace also. Enjoy every smile together that you are given and hold every hand that is offered. Make the most out of any time you have together.

My mother didnt smoke..never drove...did alot of walking ate right and still ended up with pancreatic..I guess it is not for us to understand..it will be a long road...my mother had her stomach reconstructed...she refused chemo at her age...a year later the cancer was throughout her stomach.... I will pray for your friend and her family and friends...hugs
