You're not alone in your pain. Fibromyalgia is a condition that can be difficult to diagnose and manage. If you're trying to cope with pain throughout your body, sleep problems, general fatigue, or other common fibromyalgia symptoms, you're in the right place. The community is here for you to talk about therapies and share your challenges.
I'm very happy to see people discovering that so much of our pain is myofascial and can be controlled with some time, effort and the willingness to massage the trigger points regardless of how painful they are. I find it very sad to see so many fibro sufferers who've been to doctors for years and are never told about myofascial pain. These doctors leave us believing that we have all sorts of nerve damage without a definate cause as in my case when I was told the excuriating pain in my feet had to be nerve damage from MS. When it turned out I didn't have MS, he blew me like I was a nut--same story everyone on here has been through.
I would urge anyone whose pain moves around from place to place to seriously consider if you have myofascial pain. Fibro shouldn't make your shins hurt, your big toe throb or the arch of your foot throb. Neither should it make your thighes burn, your buttock to ache and the like. Those are all classical myofascial type pains that can be dealt with with trigger point massage.
If there's any way you can afford it, I urge you to buy the trigger point therapy workbook featured at triggerpointbook.com as well as some sort of massager device. Those are two of my treasured possessions that I would grab if I had to evacuate in an emergency as they help me keep my pain level under control. Another truly wonderful about being about to do massage on yourself and control some of your pain is that it will save you humiliating visits to the doctor trying to convince them you're in pain when all your scans are normal. I've been through it all and can tell you that after doing trigger point massage for 5 years now, my pain levels are no worse than that of any other woman my age.
She also told me about a spray she used on me - it's a cold spray and I can't read her writing but it's something like "Ethyl Chlonde Topical Spray for Muscle". You can get it from any medical supply store and you're suppose to be able to spray it on and some or most of the pain go away.
