Mononucleosis and Fibro

My fibro originally started after getting mono 30 years ago. My joints ached, glands were swollen and it never seemed to leave. All the doctors at the time thought I was nuts, or they were quacks and/or told me I need to speak with a psychologist. I remember getting tested for everything under the sun.

Anyone else get their Fibro onset after having or at the same time as Mono?

It's just a personal curiosity thing. We didn't have the Internet back then.

I had mono 25 years ago, but didn't get fibro until 4 years ago.

I had mono 20 years ago, and I've not been healthy since mono. I had a pretty bad case, swollen glands, sore throat, pleurisy. I had endometriosis and aches in different areas of my body for years. I think I've had fibro for 20 years.

My illness began with Mono as well. First the fatigue never went away and then I woke up one morning in pain that stayed. I've been ill now for 13 yrs.

Over the years I've had other people tell me how their life changed after Mono and how the pains never went away. The feet pain was unreal.

Mine started with a horrible illness. I was married t my second husband and he was in the army.

The army docs had n idea what was wrong with me.

I had a fever of 103 for over a week.

So who knows what it was.

All I know is it was the start of fibro.

So weird how this topic was posted.I had a mono test done by the doctor last week,the nurse called me and said "You don't have mono but the test showed you've had mono in the past" I just thought wow,when did I have mono?Did a little research and some sites suggested it could be linked to Chronic fatigue Syndrome.

I have had several run ins with the EBV/Mono. As I have heard of many others who have also had it I wonder if it is related??

wow, we're gonna figure this out, sooner or later....... My husb. My mom, and me all had mono, when we were dating, mom wasn't part of the dating....

Never could figure out how mamma got it (smile) but t hey both were real sick,but I didn't stay sick but about a week, I ran a fever, and had all the stuff just not as bad as they did!

how will be able to convince Dr's they barely realize were sick?

Hmmm this is very interesting!! When I was a sophomore in high school ( almost 16 yrs old...am now 35), I was really sick for a week....all this time I've thought I'd had pneumonia...but I just read the symptoms of mono and it's very possible I had that! I had a fever of 104 for three days and 102 for two more days. I had no appetite, terrible cough, sore throat, lost 10 pounds, I was so fatigued it took me 6 weeks to get back to normal. I didn't get fibro symptoms though until I was 32....after two rounds of the drug lupron for endometriosis treatment.

My symptoms flared, and I was diagnosed with this tragedy shortly after getting mono.

So Mono can be ONE cause of Fibro. Something related to Mono, Epstein Bar. I always found it interesting meeting people who got Fibro directly coinsiding with Mono. I wonder what the relationship if any to those who got Fibro years later after having Mono. My symptoms were identical to Mono. I remember being shocked when the blood results revealed Mono was gone.

Obviously Fibro is more than one syndrome/disease etc. My daughter had fibro triggered from invasive back surgery. I feared that by having a child I'd pass it on. I guess my fears materialized. I truly believe there are hereditary factors involved and hopefully one day an accurate test will be developed to diagnose.

I had endemete(can't spell) and if I go back to see how to spell,I'll forget what I'm saying.....I'm not kidding

won't it be great if we can figure out what started this 'crazy, horrible, thing that's happening to our bodies and minds!

I don't know when I had mono before, but my test always showed that I had it in the past. So I wish I knew when.. I was getting sick when IN was 20 and by age 30 it was full force and debilitating. I'm now 35. Last year, at age 34, my doc retested my EBV and to her surprise and mine.. the results showed both a past and present infection. This is supposedly extremely rare. I can't find anything online excecpt that reactivated mono, and real chronic mono that shows up on blood tests is rare. I've been tested twice since then agian and it shows same thing. So, I've got chronic mono NOW... 4 years AFTER the fibro and CFs was diagnosed. So I'm opposite of everyone else.

I had mono while a freshman in college. That was 40 years ago. Wow..I can't believe how old I am! Anyway, I was dx with fibro 4 years ago, but had symptoms well before that.
