Both my husband and I have fibromyalgia. We both take Lyrica. It works for me but it makes him drowsy during the day and he is a teacher.
He is in pain all day. Can anyone tell me a medication that has diminished the pain during the day and does not make you drowsy. Thank you so much.

You can also try a couple of other things. Eat smaller high protein meals more often to keep his blood sugar stable. Incidentally, if he is propping himself up with coffee that only makes things worse. The crash after ingesting a lot of caffeine and or sugar is bad and recovering is even worse.
There is a supplement called D-Ribose which can be used for energy. If he is diabetic, this is NOT an option. I like the brand Coravlen which was originally developed for congestive heart failure patients. You can read about it and purchase this product online.
And finally, sublingual B12 tablets with folic acid. They dissolve under your tongue. Folic acid helps the B12 absorb. These tablets can be purchased at any decent health food store. For best results, do not eat, drink, smoke or brush teeth a half an hour before and after using them. B12 is expelled in urine so they can be used throughout the day.
There is no way for anyone to accurately predict how your husband would react to a different medication for pain. I hope that these alternative suggestions are helpful. Take care.
Cymbalta, Savella, Gabapentin and/or muscle relaxers are other medication options for Fibromyalgia pain. Again, there is no way to predict how they might affect him.
Has he had a sleep study done? And, does he take anything to help him sleep at night? This is a critical part of managing Fibromyalgia. Your muscles require deep sleep in order to recover from the days activities. No deep sleep means higher levels of pain. I'd recommend a sleep study if one h as not been done.
Take care.
