Ok, so I went to my PCM today at the VA and told her about the extremely painful areas on my skin that feel like nerve pain but are on the surface only. And that everything that comes into contact with my skin feels like it's being shredded be shards of glass. She said that it is my nerves and it is the fibromyalgia. So she is starting me on neurontin and will later put me on lyrica. I'm already on effexor and don't know the effects of these other two drugs. She said that the neurontin will treat that painful shredding sensation I get.

What is everyone's experience with lyrica or neurontin? What are the side effects you have experienced? Is it ok to mix these drugs? and are they ok to take with effexor? Any answers about these will help. Thanx!

I was on Lyrica for about two months. It didn't really help with my pain and I also had weight gain (6 lbs in 5 days!!), dizziness and irritability.

I'm now on Neurontin and have been on it for about 4 months...I don't really like it either. I stopped taking it on the day before my dr. appt. and while I was in pain,I felt so much clearer and connected instead of like I usually feel...like I'm walking through a fog.

I take nuetron with no side effects and it does help the nerve pain but other pain still there.

I have both fibro and MS, I tried lyrica, but it cause my hands and feet to swell and made me to have too much brain fog, plus it was too expensive. my neuro put me on neurontin but that also caused too much weight gain. My rheumy said that most rheumy prescribe lyrica, while most neuro's prescribe neurontin. good luck!

I felt on edge taking lyrica and was snapping and yelling at my family like I was PMSing really bad!

wow everybody's experiences are so different! Well i've started the neurontin 2 days ago and th only side effects so far are sleepiness and the 1st night I had a head ache with it.

Try Drug Digest for drug to drug interactions.
I had a bad time with Lyrica, I took one and that was it.
I'm gonna start Neurontin this weekend and see how that one works. Doc is starting me on 100mg since I had such a bad reaction to the Lyrica.

Good luck to you. I really hope it works. Some say they really do help.
