Is Adrenal Fatigue the Cause of Fibro?
Is Adrenal Fatigue the Cause of Fibro?
When I started getting sick, my main symptom was that I just felt weird. It was a kind of internal jitteriness weird that I couldnt shake. Some days it was worse than others, but it was always there.
Over the course of about 10 years, this internal jitteriness turned into a feeling of being sick in a weird, jittery sort of way as well. For 25 very long years, I always felt like I rivers of adrenaline was coursing through my veins.
Last summer I read how people with adrenal fatigue excrete excess sodium and retain excess potassium causing the body to excrete excess fluid causing cellular dehydration. It was recommended that you drink salt water a couple of times to offset this which made sense as I noticed several years ago that I craved salt when going into a flare.
I started doing this and immediately started feeling better. My energy returned overnight. I also was taking an adrenal cortex supplement and later added DHEA.
After adding amino acids to treatment protocol, I started feeling human for the first time since the jitters began back in my 20s. Im now to the point of being in the longest remission ever, going on six months. I have a flare every couple of weeks, but theyre nothing like they used to be.
This has had such a profound impact on my life that I have to wonder how many others have experienced the same thing. I know several people on this site that also experienced the internal jitters when they were getting sick and feel this might be the core issue in their fibro. If you have similar symptoms, I urge you to study adrenal fatigue.

Ive posted several articles on the role of adrenal fatigue and insomnia in the natural & alternative treatment group as its a problem for me so Ive researched it to death.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
I worship the sun...yet my Vitamin D levels were low...I eat very healthy...and Always have...with very little meat...yet my Vitamin B levels were low...my C was good...my Potassium was Normal...my Cortisol was Very High...not sure WHY...and has had my Dr. stumped as well...
I do not Feel jittery...I feel weak...and I am Not a weak person...am very well Muscled {Somewhere under an extra 30 pounds of Fat I cannot seem to shake off }...I always had GREAT Endurance...except when I would Flare...til the last 10 years...my endurance has Failed me...ever so slowly it has Vanished...tho I keep fighting to keep my head above water...I feel like I am slowly sinking...
Muscle/Joint aches...Weakness...Mind Numbing Fatigue...sometimes Anxiety Hits...but that has been OK again for the past few weeks...Depression Hits...and I am finding it harder and harder to even Want to Fight it off anymore...but still manage to so far...
I get FULL check ups every 10 months...all levels of everything checked as I am Prone to Clots and cannot take the meds...not even the Asprin anymore...I Take Omegas 3.6.9. and my Dr. says that seems to be doing the trick...I went OFF for a month ALL supplements to see what was causeing my stomach pain...as they found nothing...{Diverticulosis, but that would cause pain somewhere else}...the Pain is still there...so I went back on my supplements cause I started to feel real bad again...
your Adrenal Glands Produce the Hormone Cortisol...am I right ? and that was Very High...but he gave me No idea exactly What to do about it.
You might see naturopath about having your hormone levels done with using the 24 hour saliva test that shows when you produce cortisol. If you produce too much at night, you won't be able to sleep. My naturopath put me on a supplement called Seriphos to block the cortisol. It's an amino acid with phosphatidylserine in it.
Something that might interest you is that one of the most baffling symptoms of adrenal stress is an intolerance to medications/supplements. Even tiny doses can have undue impact, and not be tolerated.
Have you ever noticed and unpredictable response to medications, where at some points they work and other times don't, or have intolerable side effects? Any variation on this may indicate an adrenal problem.
However, if you go to most doctors to have this checked, they'll test you and find you normal. I saw a graph that explains why this happens, but I can't show it on here.
Initially when adrenals are being stressed, they respond by putting out cortisol (the stress hormone). The more stressed you are (by any factors), the more they put out. After a while, the adrenals become too stressed to produce adequate amounts of cortisol and people find themselves becoming increasingly exhausted. Cortisol ends up rising at night when it should be falling to allow a person to sleep. And it can deteriorate beyond this.
In order to tell what's really going on with your adrenals, you need a coritsol test done on saliva, four times in one day, from 7am to about midnight.
That tells the story of whether you are having adrenal issues or not.
The blood test for adrenal can be very confusing as it test the median level of cortisol, which is about the same in somone with normal adrenal function and someone with adrenal malfunction.
I hope this made some sense.
No, It is not Mid dakota Clinic in Bismarck I go to...I go to Clinic within a Hospital there as I am always having to go thru a ton of tests when ever I see that Dr.
I will follow this one up Tuesday(Its Sunday Afternoon here)
