You know the strange sensations you get on your skin like there is an open wound or your skin is peeled back but there is nothing there? And certain clothing hurt as well? Well that is considered nerve pain. Mine get really bad and painful to the point I want to scream! It will take over my entire leg from the waist down.
I found out from my PCM that that is from the tiny nerve fingers that branch off the bigger nerves under your skin that are sending over stimulated messages to your brain. It has a lot to with the signals in your brain as well, and that some times fibro patients brain over produces signals as well. So what the drug neurontin does, it slows the freuquency of those signals, therefore lessening the pain. But she also told me that we aren't supposed to take the high dosage that it was originally though we were. We are supposed to take a much lower dosage than the 1000 something mg a day. So I learned a lot from her and I'm so happy that she is smart!!
The other thing I wanted to mention was, there is a group here for nerve pain which includes that type of pain as well, it's the Neuropothy group. There is a lot of information there and helpful links and sites available to us. There also is a live chat room for us at: xat.com/Neuropathy
and people tend to be there almost every evening. if you go to the chat room, it will automatically assign you a name, so change it to ur DS name and make sure when u 1st get in to mention u are from DS. Cuz people not from DS will be banned.

I sometimes have it elsewhere but the most frequent site for me is around the rib cage.
I had Severe Neurapathy after surgery , felt like someone was holding FIRE to both thighs...Oh, I did Not think I was gonna make it thru that time...I tried this neurontin at that time, did absolutley nothing except make me sick...did not touch the nerve pain at all...nor did it help my friend who had severe neurapthy in her back after neck surgery...
I have heard so many good things about this drug...I Hoped and Prayed it would work...this was before I fully became aware of becoming sensative to any stimulant medicatiosn...or blockers, But I am Happy that so many HAVE been helped with this one, as Opposed to Lyrica...
