You know I came to this site and this FM support group in particular years ago (maybe 8 or more, I cant remember) but all I did was read some posts and some of the links on this site. At the time I was desperate to find some things to help. That is why when a post comes up that is so obviously desperate to find help that it really strikes me so. I know the feeling and even though I may not reply, I really feel for them.
This time when I came to the FM support group I didnt take time to read any posts. I just jumped right in because I had made up my mind to quit just sitting alone 24/7 feeling bad. Yes, it appears to me that being totally alone does make things worse, well at least to me anyway.
So now to the actual subject of the title I posted. Ive been here almost a week and it has just now become very clear to me that most of the active members here are female. I just went through the Introduce yourself posts, both old and new and there was only one man there. Now I feel a little, oh I dont know, strange or out of place.
I have read somewhere in the past that FM strikes more women than men. Yet I think there is more to the story as to why only mostly women are here. Women are for the most part natural born nurturers and men are not. Men, for the most part dont share their troubles or admit very much to ailments for fear that it will make them look weak. To tell the truth, I am no different. It is just that I just dont care anymore what anybody thinks right now. However, I must admit that I feel rather strange being here in a support group made up primarily of women.

I have something like 230 members in my local support group, and four are men. That's not unusual either. What IS maybe unusual is that they are the most active, helpful, consistent members, and anytime I need a volunteer I can count on at least one of them to step up.
I think those of you who decide to talk about it and open yourselves up are a special breed - those some of us would refer to as "more evolved" :)

I am here regularly, but do not post that much I guess. I do read a lot of the posts and have learned a lot from these ladies.
Good to know that we are accepted by everyone.

Don't feel strange...be comfortable and just be YOU! We're all for the gift of being to help one another and find answers or to just vent becuz we all get it! Keep posting...we need all the friends we can get!

The more of us that stick around here, the more will join. While I too have felt out of place - I also fee very welcome here and the support of people who understand is priceless to me!
Please don't stay away because we are mostly females, FM does get diagnosed in more females, but still gets the guys too. I think more females are diagnosed, because it's just that the men suffer in silence most of the time (except to their spouse or significant other) and many men won't traipze from Dr to Dr to find out what their problem is, because FM is so hard for so many Drs to diagnose and treat. It took me about 10 years to get diagnosed. It took my hubby 12 yrs for diagnosis. I think there are a LOT of undiagnosed men out there. FM is an equal opportunity disease.

Your correct on, as I feel, women are nurturing and supportive. Maybe my wife had a sex change. LOL!! Don't tell her I said that!
