The community is here for you to talk about therapies and share your challenges.
I had a short period where I felt slightly better when I was taking a boatload of supplements and on a strict anti-carb diet. I was always hungry and couldn't last on the diet though. Every now and then, I change up my supplements and that seems to help.
I think anyone who even thinks they might have FM should be tested for every nutritional deficiency under the sun, because there are some that can mimic FM in symptoms and wouldn't it be awesome if someone really only had, for instance, a Vitamin D deficiency that could be treated and cured?
A healthy diet will improve your overall health - but chances are it won't cure your FM. If it does, it probably was a misdiagnosis to begin with.
There is no "cure." I do think eating well does help. I feel better when I eat healthy and not eat any white things. We help our bodies absorb much needed nutrients and boost our immune system which I think Fibro bodies don't do very efficiently. A bad diet really plunges us to the lowest level of functioning. Slows everything to a crawl.
I now have celiac sprue disease and cannot eat flour. I have not been "cured" by not eating wheat/gluten. I do have less gastritis though ! I still have bad pain and fatigue.
Furthermore, I find Fibro victims highly intelligent people. We have tried many, many combinations of things and stood on our heads too ! (Mostly banged our heads on the wall.) If there was a "CURE" out there, someone with Fibro would have figured it out with all the experimenting we have done...Trust me...
I don`t know how different our "theories" on fibro are in the UK ,as to the USA..
I was positively diagnosed with fibro...after numerous tests to rule out other conditions ,and several tests to see what my symptoms were ,how regular etc..
I do know personally that if i touch sweeteners for example ,then my fibro aches and pains go thru` the roof!
I`m sure if we held a survey on here (ds) ,we`d get alot of fibro sufferers ,who`d tell us this or that foods ,would also agravate their condition...and eliminating certain ones ,could help.
As for DEFINATELY proclaiming to know of a diet....well ,i`ve been seeing my gp now since just after diagnosis ,and he`s never come up with a statement like that.
Maybe for him personally ,it`s like this ,if he cuts out all fatty foods ,his symptoms reduce dramatically..
I try to eat a sensible diet ,most of the time ,but as previously mentioned ,apart from cheese/whole milk ,too muc h yoghurts etc ,nothing else has really reduced my flares ,pains etc....wouldn`t it be wonderful if there was a magic eating plan ,that could stop it in its` tracks?:)
Stress plays a big factor in my pain levels re fibro too ,and like our friend MM below me here ,if i`m depressed ,then that also will mean my fibro is much worse..
One day maybe there WIll be some dr who`ll come up with a "cure" ,or something to ease the frequency of our really bad fibro flares.....here`s hoping!
Love hugs ,and painfree days to you all!xox
I`ve cousins with it...one works full time...way too long!
She can also tolerate these anti-inflammatorys ,which help fibro sufferers so much..
so ,he may have a mild case?just an after thought guys..take care ,be well:)xox
We just have to learn to live with it the best we can! What works for you may not work for me. It's trial and error we just have to keep trying things that may help us! hoping for a cure though!!! hugzzz
Since thousands of thin, healthy, athletic people and children get FM it seems outrageous that some claim a diet can cure you or that being overweight is the reason you got sick.
I was very athletic and in good health when I had the sudden onset of mono and then FM at age 42. And I was thin and healthy my whole life. Unless my food was poisoned by environmental factors and that made me sick, then my diet had nothing to do with getting ill.
Sure you're going to feel better if you eat healthy. A lot of the meds they put us on add weight that we can do nothing about. I think a lot of people beat themselves up needlessly over this added weight. You just have to accept the new you. (and eat healthy)
I also agree that definitely everyone of us suffer to a different degree. Some are able to keep working, some are on the edge of loosing their jobs because of this illness, and some are completely home bound now.
only to have it bite me in the butt once again...So do we have better days, and months? Yes, but are we ever cured??? No, not me anyway. Not in the last 16 yrs. that I've had it....If you find a REAL cure. REAL CURE..Please let me know...It would be such a blessing for millions of people.....
