Gabapentin (Neurontin)

It's been a long time since I have been on the boards. Spent most of the summer taking care of my 91 year old Grandma. Grandma finally passed away on the 27th of August. Then we had to move in with my husbands mom, I still can't work. It's not all bad that we moved in with my mom in law, we get along really well and we take care of each other. She has parkinsons, and with parkinsons there comes a fog almost like fibrofog. So some of the conversations we have no one else in the room could even tell we were having a conversation. lol Does anyone else have a problem with speech sometimes? I have a question about a med I am taking. Doc put me on Gabapentin and has steadly raised the doses. I am now taking 3100mg, 9 morning 9 at three 12 before bed. I guess I have another 500mg to go before I top out how much I can take. But it seems to me that it's getting pretty high. Is there anyone else that takes this and how much do you take?

I don't know about Neurontin, I was allergic to it. Hopefully someone else will be able to help you.

Holy kerap, that seems super high to me. I barely made it to 600mgs (2 doses of 30mgs) and had to stop. Good for you though if you can tolerate it. I also gained a bunch of weight on it and had horrible brain fog.

Good to see you again but so sorry to hear about your grandma. :(

Man, you really have your hands full. I'm so sorry about gram and MIL.

I am taking 2700 a day of Gabapentin. I thought that was the max, but I guess not. I think I could use more.

It has tamed the horrible knife stabbing pains in my legs to just feeling like bee stings. But I still have a lot of pain in hands and feet.

I took Neruontin for awhile. I topped out at 700 mgs. but my doctor wanted to raise it more. I went along until I got to 1000 and quit. I couldn't speak clearly and the fogs were relentless. I also had a tendency to rage, but that's probably because I screwed up everything when I was in a fog.

Now I take Lyrica. It's about the same thing but different. I have experienced a few side effecs - scary swelling legs - but they mostly went away.

I gained 20 lbs. - not good, but I'll be fat if I can have an almost normal life otherwise.

My hubby took neurontin for a while (he's passed away now-not due to the meds) but it made him a lunatic. He actually had to spend 72 hours under observation in the psych ward cuz they thought he had gone bonkers. Thankfully I suggested it could be due to the neurontin and they released him once the meds wore off and he was himself again. I don't mean to scare you, just suggesting you go into this carefully. Ask lots of questions before you go any higher in dose.

I only made it to 600 mg. of Gabapentin. I realized it was the Gabapentin that was making me feel very violent so I quit. I will never take Gabapentin again.
