What is Naltrexone?
Naltrexone (generic name) is a pharmacologically active opioid antagonist, conventionally used to treat drug- and alcohol addiction normally at doses of 50mg to 300mg. As such, its been an FDA approved drug for over two decades.
However, researchers have found that at very low dosages (3 to 4.5 mg), naltrexone has immunomodulating properties that may be able to successfully treat cancer malignancies and a wide range of autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinsons, fibromyalgia, and Crohns disease, just to name a few.
I decided to add low dose naltrexone to my regimen in February of this year. I take 1.5 mgs daily and plan on taking 3.0 mgs eventually. Before taking low dose naltrexone, I was already on a good fibro management plan consisting of various natural treatments, and my pain was manageable. I added the low dose naltrexone in hopes of even greater relief. It has increased my daily energy levels and given me more stamina throughout the day.
I would definitely recommend that others give it a try, along with other methods. I firmly believe that fibromyalgia is very complex and must be treated by utilizing various treatment methods. I work with an integrative medical doctor and use lots of natural therapies as part of my overall plan. I have made dietary changes, take various supplements, use body work, pace myself, etc. as part of my overall fibro treatment program. Also, my doctor and I have worked hard to adress any co-existing or overlapping symptoms.
Best wishes to you and feel free to ask me any questions about my regimen.
