Posting this seperately because I find the information incredibly interesting:

At my new cardiologist they saw that I had been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. The nurse asked me, "Once you were diagnosed with fibromyalgia, was every medical problem you had after that blamed on the fibromyalgia?" I told her that yes, it was, including once when I went with an obvious sinus infection with green mucus flowing from both eyes and both nostrils. She said they get a lot of fibromyalgia patients in their practice who have been told for years the fluttering in their chest and "thing in their throat" was anxiety due to fibromyalgia when in reality is was a cardiac problem. Often cardiac problems have an off again/on again presentation, so it doesn't always show up on one test which is why I had to wear a heart monitor for 2 weeks. 

She then asked me if I thought I had fibromyalgia? I explained that the health system that diagnosed me sent me to multiple providers until they got the diagnosis. Once they did, then they stopped trying to figure out what was wrong with me. This same health system refuses to acknowledge my chronic migraine disorder at all, including saying they thought is was some sort of mental health problem for which I should go inpatient.  As fibro is a diagnosis of exclusion, and as the chronic migraine shares many of the same symptoms as fibro, then I don't know how you could clinically conclude that I have  fibromyalgia.  As a layperson, the fact that effective treatment of my chronic migraine erases my fibromyalgia symptoms would indicate to me that either I don't have the fibro OR that my migraine shot is actually a really good treatment for fibromyalgia too. 

Do I think fibry exists -- you bet. But I think you can have that and another problem -- including a heart problem -- so just be mindful and be your own best advocate everyone.
