HI. I am new to this group. I am actually here because of my friend/neighbor. She is having another flair up of Fibromyalgia and I am trying to understand what she is going through. She is really sick and has been in bed for days.
Can someone tell me what a flair up feels like? Is there anything I can do to help her?
She told me this moring that every nerve in her body is screaming out in pain. I have had that myself but I found out that it was partly due to a muscle relaxer the docs gave me. That and I have chronic pain.
I do wish each and every one of you a peaceful, joyful day. Any help will be appreciated. Much love to all who have Fibro and any other illness.

88FIn 1969 we decided to get married without a big wedding. Most of our friends and family liked large over the top for the time kind of weddings and I did not. First, I didn't see why spending so much money for one day when we have the rest of our lives to live. I have never regretted not having a big formal wedding. Another issue is not liking all the attention. Also, we have gone to big...

We're all troubled.WSo, to remind ourselves we're not at rock bottom (this is a reverse optimism thing I learned as a kid):We are not living on the island of Krakatoa when the volcano goes boom!Yeah, okay, that sucks.***Toay in 1942, Pierre Laval announced that the way to free France was for Germany to win WW2. Pierre did not win a lot of friends. When the war ended, quite quickly he was tried...

A flare varies. Mine? I wake up feeling like I spent the night rolling boulders uphill, and am beyond muscle fatigue to that stage of shaky-tired-almost-sick feeling. That's a bad flare. A mediocre flare just has the fiery pain and shakiness, for me. A minor flare is tired, reduced pain. I say "for me", since it's different for everyone.
Consider this. Have you ever been stung by a wasp? A fire ant? Imagine that, only instead of staying local to gthe bite site, the sensation goes *everywhere* in your body. Or half your body, not that it matters, since it hurts like crazy no matter what.
I have chronic pain from injury, separate from fibro. I prefer my chronic pain. It's easier, sad to say. Fibro... when nerves get into a bad feedback loop, they're very difficult to stop. I've tried a *lot*, over 20 years.
Best thing you can do for your friend, and yourself? Educate yourself, help her educate herself, and even if all you can do is encourage her to shower? That helps her morale.. Clean clothes. A meal she doesn't have to cook. Thigns tha tmake (you* feel better with chronic pain will probably help a fibro flare person, too. Heat, ice, hydration, allt he usual basic good health stuff. Or offer to wash her hair for her. Feeling clean is a huge morale boost, did I mention that?
Others will have more/better advice. Just make sure you take care of you, too!
Personally often for me it feels like I've gotten hit my a truck. A bit like when you've woken up with the flu. You're whole body just isn't functioning and the pain is very distracting. How the pain and sensation manifests itself is described differently by people.
Another story I've read lately and is applicable to fibromyalgia is the Spoon Theory. https://butyoudontlooksick.com/articles/written-by-christine/the-spoon-theory/
Might help the perspective too.
