There used to be Tylenol #2 that has a small amount of codeine in it that is over the counter in Canada. Maybe it isn't anymore, but you might want to check with your pharmacist.
Also, we hear that marijuana is going to be legal in Canada. I was in Colorado at Christmas and tried a strain of medical marijuana that was high in CBD and low in THC. I was still taking codeine and a sleep med, but it seemed like I could go a long time with taking a pill and hang in there longer when I was with my family. I don't know how it would work now, but I would like to try it again. Although medical marijuana is legal in New York, there are a lot of hoops to go through.
I wasn't interested in the euphoric properties, but there were some. If you don't like that, they are mild and over quickly. Somehow the CBD properties (pain relief) lasts for around a day.
I have a rheumatologist there who knows something about MMJ in her autoimmune patients. She told me some THC worked better that more pure CBD for pain.
Since now MMJ is getting a bit dicey here I have even thought of moving to Canada if that is the only way I can get enough pain relief to really function.
Personally, I think it's awful that chronic pain patients are just being left to rot. I've been using codeine for many years and I can stop taking it without a problem (except pain). It is sad that many people do become addicted, although I haven't heard of too many codeine addicts. I think the Tylenol would kill you before the codeine.
I hope you find something that helps.
I have the same problem as you. I was nearly unconscious in bed today after working at beginning of week.
I take the predecessor of Lyrica, gabapentin. It does make me gain weight but without it I'd be crippled and I'd never be able to go out. I know because I thought it wasn't helping and I stopped it. My symptoms got much worse.
At least i can function half of the week.
Good luck, and love to you.
