i know this illness destroys lots of relationships and marriages.
some of you know that mine ended last year March after almost 4 yrs together. was a very bad split up.
i met this guy who is a fellow veteran and he too has fibro. i've seen him around the VA all of last year and we always ran into each other but never spoke to each other till the 1st week of Dec.
anyways.... his 9.5 yr relationship failed a few weeks ago because she just can't understand his chronic pain and especially his life with fibro. he told me they;ve been failing for a year now, but it's officially over. i dropped him off last night after he got over a bad head ache and ran into his ex. she was crying and expects him to just go back to his old self some how. She told me he was "playing the victim and just settling with pain". When she said that, I took it as a personal offense and tried to explain some things to her to set her straight. but i couldn't get her to understand how FM effects one's life. i got frustrated and left.
it was like de ja vu all over again with MY ex.
anyways... i've been spending a lot of time with him at his appts, etc. and we've been hanging out out side of the clinic, too. I try to support him as best as possible, and we help each other when we're not feeling well. even with chores and things. he's been very supprtive of me as well and trying to help me through my struggles.
it's really nice to have met someone in real life face to face that knows what it's like to have this crap. and not only that but he's a veteran and knows what that's like, too.
he also knows what it's like to have a failed relationship because of all the above that the other person doesn't understand...... they expect you to go back to being the old person you once were.
we find comfort in each other's company and we are supportive of each other. we try to encourage each other through the suffering that we go through. we plan on being with each other. is it wrong for us?

life is so painful
Do whatever you want to do, whatever you can do to make yourself feel just a little better....I would give anything just to find someone who would understand this wisth me....easier said than done

Okay, the age thing? Common.....that's nothin! Nobody looks at that these days unless the one is underage and it's illegal.
As for your happiness. Look back at your ex for a moment and how others felt about him and how he treated you. That should say a lot right there! People were concerned for you, I know I was with is bursts of rage and such.
And I'm sure it's clear to your new friend that going back with his ex is gonna be dangerous. And how clear it is to me how his ex is now jealous that someone else cares about him.
I can only imagine how hard it would be to drop off all ties after 9+years but she made a choice...she doesn't want to live with a disease. (and it seems thats all she saw and resented it).
Blue, you deserve happiness. And if he brings that to you, then so what? I know I've met several people here who have spouses with other debilitating diseases and they are happy. They understand each other and what they can and can not do.
And I know you girl...you always go for what is best for you. To me this is a no brainer. But I too would want to make everyone happy including my family.
