I decided not to have kids before my fibro dx, there is NO WAY I could be a mom now, I can barely take care of myself, my husband is always working and my medical bills keep us broke. No room for baby here!
By that I mean see how long you can lug around a 20# bag of potatoes? When it comes to older babies, 20#'s isn't all that much.
How many times can you get up during the night and stay up for anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour and still be fully functioning during the day?
Time goes by very quickly with children and before you know it you are dashing to ballet lessons, baseball practice, school assemblies - well that list goes on ad nauseum.
I would strongly suggest a trial run.
For instance.... when my mom broke her leg back in 2010 and i had to care for her I did not get good rest, I had to push and pull her in her wheel chair, I had to make liquid meals for her every day and bring her water to her bed side all day, Had to go to doc appts w/ her, I ended up with back to back severe flares for months. It took like a year before I started getting back to normal pain levels or normal sleep patterns.
I was in such bad shape that started looking for homes for my cats because I couldn't get up to feed them or scoop their litter. Thankfully, by then nurses began to come out and help with the care my mom required. And my youngest bro came out for a couple weeks to pitch in, too. So I was able to take some time to do some self care.
But because of what happened 3 yrs ago it scares me to have kids.
There's a great deal of wisdom in these replies (except for carrying a 20 pound sack of potatoes! START with a 5 pound bag of potatoes and your strength will increase over a year to handle that 20 pound one year old!).
Each pregnancy is different in some women. My third, I cried all the time. My fourth and last, I felt better than I had my entire life! The most important things are what you and your husband truly want. Hope the answers will come to you both. Best wishes.
