I'm curious how many women here had a hysterectomy and then developed fibro or existing fibro worsened?
A study published in 2009 in Clinical Rheumatology concluded that postmenopausal women with fibro were more likely to have had early menopause or a hysterectomy. Here are a couple of links:

I had a hysterectomy in 2006. I don't have fibro but my joints ache (more arthritis type symptoms than fibro) when my estrogen gets too low.
I recall a woman posting on the Hyst board that her doctor said her hysterectomy caused her body to "explode with disease" but she didn't elaborate. I don't have any diagnosed diseases but the hyst triggered many symptoms as well as rapid aging on the outside - I can only hope I haven't aged as quickly on the inside!

Having a hysterectomy wouldn't apply to all the men or children out there with FM. So I think trying to find a connection is about as useless as saying that physical or sexual abuse is the connection. Obviously not everyone with FM has had a hysterectomy or has been abused.
I think it's just one on the long list of possible triggers, but I also believe there is a hormonal connection because my first symptom, years before I was diagnosed, was feeling like I had the flu during my period every month.
