Fibromyalgia and Psoriatic Arthritis

I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 1996 and just recently diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis. It has been a very long health journey. What prompted this new diagnosis was the development of Iritis in my eye. The rheumatologist is not ruling out Fibromyalgia and I do not have obvious signs of Psoriasis on my skin. Anyone else with this tandem diagnosis? I have been prescribed Sulfasalazine 2000 mg per day.

No shel i do have arthritis very bad but i just had blood test because old dr never told me what type it was. I have fibro too. What are all the symptoms of this type of arthritis i have never heard of it. I wish i could help you with it. So what is it that they found in the eyes i dont really understand this type??? Shelabug~ My doctor is suspisous that I may have psoriatic arthritis as well. The first time I saw him fibro and psoriatic arthritis were his two suspisions. I do have psoriasis (both feet and hands) that I've had for about 25 years or so. I have tested positive to all the fibro criteria so he sorta put the arthritis theory on the back burner so to speak. However my last appointment he sent me for more blood work because I have been having a lot of pain and swelling in my hands and feet so he is thinking we need to revisit that thought. Won't know results for a few weeks yet though. It is my understanding that there is NO test to say whether you have psoriatic arthritis or not. It is diagnosed by process of elimination and symptoms. It is similar in regards to rheumatoid arthritis in as how it attacks the joints and its disabiling ability.

Please let me know how you make out with the sulfasalzine. I sure hope it helps you!

The diagnosis of Psoriatic Arthritis was after a whole body bone scan, x-rays, blood work, physical exams and continued eye exams to monitor the Iritis. So, you are correct Dawn815 that it was through a process of elimination. The blood tests ruled out Lupus, RA and the like. All indications pointed to Psoriatic Arthritis. As for the Sulfasalazine...it is too early to tell if it is beneficial. I am still bothered with swollen joints, fatigue and all that Fibro entails. Thank you for your kind words and I will report back as things go along.
