You're not alone in your pain. Fibromyalgia is a condition that can be difficult to diagnose and manage. The community is here for you to talk about therapies and share your challenges.
I will debate with you on the 8+ glasses of water. I think that's excessive. Water toxicity.
As far as the list of foods to eliminate, I think it would be easier to list the foods you CAN eat.
Nice link to an advertisement for a book by the way.
I have tried everything known to man to get rid of my fibro over the past 25 years.
The diet did not cure my fibro.
If only it was that simple.
I agree that making our bodies the best they can be will help us manage our F much better. It's simple common sense.
I, too have days that I just feel out of shape rather than F'd, but I think that comes mostly from taking anti-virals for a year 'cause I've been doing this diet thing for the last 25 years.
There has been little information available from the scientific community on nutrition and diet for Fibromyalgia patients. Research has not yet proven that any specific foods affect Fibromyalgia, positively or negatively. But we do know that eating a good balanced diet helps everyones body function at its best. Good nutrition can help in your health and healing. Eating healthful foods including those low in fat and high in immunity boosting antioxidants and phytochemicals may work together to help maximize energy and alertness and minimize constant fatigue and lethargy.
Many people have overcome their Fibromyalgia symptoms by changing their lifestyle and diet. Mary Moeller, author and spokeswoman on Fibromyalgia, now enjoys a state of remission from her Fibromyalgia symptoms by making a few changes in her lifestyle. To reach this ideal she advocates eliminating 4 foods completely from your diet (Mary Moeller's Fibromyalgia Cookbook.)
1. Chocolate
2. Carbonated beverages
3. Coffee
4. Alcohol
Along with changes in nutrition she encourages stretching, exercising and drinking 8+ glasses of water a day. Also, in Mary Moeller and Joe Elrod's book, The Fibromyalgia Nutrition Guide, they advocate a more complete list in order to overcome fatigue and feel your best. The 12 items to avoid are:
1. High fat dairy foods
2. White sugar and white flour
3. Fried foods
4. Preservatives, junk food, and salt
5. Red meat (especially salt cured, cured bacon, smoked, or nitrate cured)
6. Coffee and caffeinated teas
7. Colas, soda pop, and carbonated beverages
8. Liquid with your meals
9. Alcoholic beverages
10. All forms of tobacco
11. Prolonged periods of direct sun exposure
12. Nutrasweet and saccharine
my opinion:
chocolate is my only vice on the top 4 and I only eat it once a week when gd and I make brownies....really just don't like the other stuff and only do the chocolate to please her
I had a doctor tell me 28 years ago that nutrasweet is bad for you and could cause brain damage during fetal development, she was in Europe where we were stationed at the time. I fully believed her and do not now nor never have done nutrasweet.....ever wonder about the number of kids that have ADD/ADHD or seizures or a host of other problems all related to brain activity, I do.
don't smoke, don't do colas or carbonation not for health reasons just don't like them
don't do fried foods on a regular basis but do like fried eggs occasionaly
love my bread, milk, drink lots with my meals and do like an occasional alcoholic beverage,
eat mostly fish, chicken and veggies because thats what I like but I do like a good steak too.
I believe food can and does affect the way you feel, I think if a disease is caused by a food, ie: an allergy then stopping the food should and usually does help I am extremely allergic to pineapple, even a fruit touching pineapple and me eating that fruit will cause shortness of breath, swelling and a true emergency so I obviously avoid it at all cost.
If I thought for a minute that changing my entire diet would CURE my fibro I might would try it but if you read the entire article there are no guarantees just like with meds there are no guarantees.
Individual choices....go for whatever you think will work
I know its a stubborn attitude but, I have tried special diets before and they didn't help me. Once, I tried a juice diet where I juiced fruits and vegetables and that's all I ate/drank. I did this for 17 days. I retained all my symptoms but, I lost 12 pounds! I've also tried gluten-free, no help there. I say, moderation is the key for us all.
'I'd give up chocolate but I'm no quitter.'
Only like the dark quality stuff though.
After reading this, I definitely plan to start to eliminate these items from my diet to see if it helps. I don't know that I will eliminate all of them 100%, but will comply by 90% to see if it makes a difference ..
Thanks for the info !
