Fibromyalgia Support Group
You're not alone in your pain. Fibromyalgia is a condition that can be difficult to diagnose and manage. If you're trying to cope with pain throughout your body, sleep problems, general fatigue, or other common fibromyalgia symptoms, you're in the right place. The community is here for you to talk about therapies and share your challenges.
If you give discounts to some with Fibro (which I do think is incredibly nice and sweet of you since you can relate) but how are you gonna know if someone does have Fibro or not? What if someone hears of it and claims to have Fibro just for the discount?
I used to do hair and I've learned that people will take advantage of you at any costs.
I'd hate to see you put yourself through extra work so that someone can cheat you.
I just don't know how anyone would know if someone is lying or not.
Good luck though, I love your idea.
Hugs,
jen
I get most of my clients through insurance referrals...DRs script...so that helps that.
Also, when I call the client back (as they are all by appointment only) we can chat alittle - find out what they are experiencing -what they need help with- etc etc ...I can usually tell.
Then if someone slipped through that didnt have Fibro? Well, I guess Id have to say they needed massage purdy bad...LOL! Im guessing by the end of the massage I would know.
Thanks again... love all the help with this!
Ps wonderbaby... I gotcha on the take advantage thing for better prices etc... although I have been pretty lucky so far. I do have to say it might have been easier in the very begining of my practice, but not after so many years...its kinda sad what people will do to save a buck...and kinda funny too! Thanks!
For myself, I would definitely take advantage of a discount. I have a therapist who had terrible skin problems, and I trade her Mary Kay for massages. I wish I'd taken a "before" picture because she looks as good as I feel LOL
My chiro (who is also my friend) teaches anatomy to massage students, and she's going to speak to my local fibro support group in January, and while she's speaking, I'm going to have a massage therapist (who has fibro) do 5 minute chair massages so people who have never tried (or have been scared to try) can check it out. She's going to talk about how massage helps for fibro, from an anatomical perspective, which the therapist does the "practical" part.
I'm really looking forward to that, because it was a quickie chair massage that made a believer out of me!
And, its not a one-time thing for relaxation & pampering, it is a medical treatment for me, that I need to do consistantly. So, fees quickly add up.
Massage is amazing for me. I am so blessed to have an understanding and compassionate therapist who works with me, and educates himself on FM. Thanks for taking the time to ask us!
Im happy to hear all the feedback-- thats the type of thing I am asking for here good and bad-
What people would like - not like - what would bring them around to trying it... or make them comfortable...etc...
Peace- thats a great idea about the "talks" around to differnet places that your chiro does... also love the idea of exchanging the cosmetics for massage. Trades are great- just like currency. Skill for skill or valued items...good stuff.
