Just the opposite for me. Minimal, if any muscle pain when I'm on it and call it my "wonder drug". I wish you had better results with it.

everyone has different reactions to medications. talk to your doc ASAP. S/he should help you find the medication that's right for YOU.

Predisone is for people with inflammation not fibro. I tried it once and I call it a nightmare drug. I never slept. ate all the time and made me feel worse.

I didnt even stay on it 8 days and withing 4 I gained 20 lbs probably.

Prednisone is not for people with Fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia does not cause inflammation. Steroids depress the immune system. They should only be used when absolutely necessary, in the lowest possible dose and for the shortest time possible. I would have some serious second thoughts about any doctor prescribing steroids prior to having a clear understanding of the problem. Good luck and take care.

I've had two rounds of Prednisone recently trying to reduce the inflammation in my sinuses to allow them to drain as the antibiotics work - when the specialist tried to give me a third round I refused to take any more as it makes the rest of my body feel like crap.

I don't sleep, my blood pressure goes crazy (alternatively high and low) and I feel like I'm going to jump out of my skin.

For those with fibro and no diagnosed auto-immune disorder, who feel better when taking it - you need to re-visit your diagnosis as there could be something inflammatory going on that hasn't been diagnosed.

@ 40 mg per day I feel like I have superhuman powers (this may explain why so many pro athletes take something similar). I'm not as tired and the pain doesn't bother me as much. I'm jumpy and nervous, and can have roid rage. My wife hates it when I take prednisone.
I find I can get alot more done. When I stop taking it the next week or two is quite bad.

I know with Fibro that steroids are not suppose to help because it doesn't cause inflammation, however in my case, this is the ONLY drug or thereapy that can take almost all my pain away within 2 days of starting it at 30mg or more. BUT, everyone's body reacts differently to different drugs.

I also did not do well on on prednisone. I not only felt worse but had new weird symptoms on it which had all disappeared after I stopped taking it. I think its common knowledge that nsaids and steroids do not work for fm, however I have heard from people on here that it did in fact make there fm worse. When I felt worse on it the doctors felt that I had a hypersensitive reaction to it.

The Rheumy, Neuro, and Pain doc all said the same thing about Prednisone, it will take all, if not most of your pain away and you will feel like a new person on it.

I was put on Prednisone for a sinus infection as well, and I was truly expecting AMAZING results as I sat there on 20, 30, then 40mg of the most painful side effect medication I have taken. I was soaked from head to toe and went to the Rheumy's office and said this is what you wanted me to take next??? LOOK, LOOK!!!

He was speechless. This hurt me, my case in another way, he was so confused at it's affect on my body that he nearly dropped me as a patient!!! I cried as he talked about it.

Well, I stopped taking it immediately and will not ever take that steroid again. Yes, we are all different and then there is me, the physically deranged LOL jk I love me, it's my body that has the problem.

Eva when you say you were soaked I assume you're talking dripped sweat? I wake up with the pillow and sheets soaked when I take Prednisone - it's like what people have described to me that happens to some women in menopause but I never experienced it to that degree - until Prednisone!

Short-term is bad enough - long term the side effects are even nastier including osteoporosis and cataracts. Back before they developed more effective asthma drugs I was on it off and on for years for asthma and I've been told by several doctors that's what caused my cataracts at an unusually early age.

I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and one way my GP was convinced it was a misdiagnosis is because I felt 100% better on Prednisone. The arthritis nurse in my area said people with inflammatory conditions like RA/Lupus generally feel better on Prednisone. Those with Fibromyalgia feel worse.

I hope you didn't stop it suddenly because it can cause adrenal failure. So it's a pretty good sign you don't have RA/Lupus if you felt worse on it.

Im on a low dose of prednisone to keep the swelling down in my feet/lets from the erythema nedosum (inflammation of the fat cells), not for the fibro. If I am on a higher dose, I go manic and hallucnate, not a good thing since I am also bipolar. Even at a higher dose I feel worse physically (not to mention mentally) so leads toward the fibro diagnosis. Needless to say steroids and I don't mix to well.

Does your doc suspect lymes? I would find out exactly what your doc is thinking before taking it.

As for your body feeling worse. Take this for what it is worth because I've only heard of this second hand.. But for those who are taking it due to lymes they often feel worse before feeling better. Really worse where they question it.

If your doc was thinking of Lymes...then maybe this is what you are experiencing? Otherwise, you could also talk with your pharmacist about your reaction to taking the medication.

Thanks for all the input, everyone. I tapered it (wasn't on a huge dose) but I did feel worse for a day...my muscle spasms increased with the steroid and so did the pain in my arms. I did get a lyme panel, which was negative. The doc wanted me to take it to see if it would help....a sort of diagnostic tool. My sed rate has never been over 26-28 so this isn't huge systemic inflammation; he says this isn't abnormal in a middle-aged woman.
I guess I don't quite know what is going on with my body...you all know the feeling!
