A couple things happened today that are stressing me out. First is that I found out my dads aunt (one of the 3 people in his family we still talk to) passed away on Monday. I found out when I read her daughters facebook post..apparently no one felt the need to tell me or my sister. We weren't close with her, but still. We're also both going to the funeral this week to support the daughter, who lost a son to an overdose a couple years ago-she's a good person. My dad did call me and ask if I knew, 8 hours after I saw the post, which was written a few days ago. Also found out that my dad tried to get into a game my sister was coaching, despite knowing fans aren't allowed. My mom refused to go because it wasn't allowed so he lied and said he was running an errand. He went to the field instead and made a scene when they told him he couldn't watch the game. My sister didn't know it happened for 24 hours and has since had to apologize to the athletic director, etc. We both know he didn't even consider the ramifications for her since coaching is directly tied to her employment (teacher) and probably still thinks he did nothing wrong. My sister is understandably livid and I'm pissed on her behalf, but also concerned about his health after other recent events-he's had much worse mood swings than normal for several years-think screaming til his face is purple-and his memory is terrible. What little filter he had is mostly gone, he was always prejudiced but a couple weeks ago was throwing the N word around. At the risk of sounding like a jerk, he's never been a very amicable person but this is another level. I'm honestly not sure if it's a health issue or just aging changes, and I'm not sure which is worse. Obviously I don't want him to have a serious health problem, but I'm also struggling with the possibility he's just like this. There is Alzheimer's and several other health problems in his family and I'm well acquainted with the worst case scenarios, and he will never bring it up to a doctor and even suggesting it will be a fight. There is literally nothing I can do except watch everything go up in flames. Sorry to vent, not even looking for advice or anything, just need to get these thoughts out

Welcome to the Perseid meteor showers, the "biggies" usually every year. (The Leonids beat 'em one year IMHO).AND today much of the northern hemisphere will see 5 to 99% solar eclipse. How cool is that? Your best bet is to be in the UK or norhtern Spain, where totality is excellent before sundown. Me, I'll get a super duper tiny itty bitty slice of it, so little that it won't be noticeable. New...

Been there, done that, with my mom re: behavior and changes and resistance. So.... HUGS!
For the protection of other people especially he needs to be evaluated. He could be a real hazard on the road and who knows what other things he is doing that may be out of line. The doctor can do some simple memory tests in the office without tipping him off and then send him on to see a specialist (if he goes). The doctor has the right to pull his license too if he feels it is necessary. I know all of this is very difficult. Find out and call or if it were me, I'd make and appointment and have your sister go too to discuss these issues. Your Dad needs to be kept safe for his own good. Your sister can and should explain to the athletic director that your Dad may have Alzheimer's and that the family is looking into getting him an evaluation. I would hope that would elicit a bit more understanding.
My condolences on the passing of your aunt. I'm so sorry that you have this stuff to deal with when you are already overtired continually and everything else.
Sending you hugs and lots of support.
