I would give conservative treatment a chance - there are always real risks with any surgery. If your ankle hurts ask the ortho Dr for pain meds - it is not an unreasonable request.
I also agree that pain meds would not be an unreasonable request.
I hope you get through your move OK and find a better doctor when you get there.
Surgery is practically a foregone conclusion. It's a just a question of when. I did so much damage to my ankle when I fell. From what I've read, with or without surgery it will never be "right" ever again. On the bright side, I feel the alleviation of all guilt associated with the notion over of ever being a runner. :)
I still just bubble with indignation everytime I think about the visit wtih my dr when I told her (six weeks after the sprain) it still hurt. She just feels I am overly sensitive to pain and just blew me off and ordered the MRI begrudgingly.
I sent her a letter detailings all my symptoms and asked her to refer me to someone who could help me and I have NEVER HEARD BACK from her. I know I need to contact patient advocacy and get tricare to assign me someone new. It just seems like a choice between the hell I know and an unknown hell. I can't decide which is worse. I suppose that is a topic for another day.
We are here for you.
