IF it is NERVE Pain DO NOT Use Heat...nerves HATE heat and you will Only Lengthen the Time of Pain...I use a Cool Cloth on my nerve Pain in my Feet, or anywhere else I get it.
If it is Muscular, and this is a New Pain for you, I would go in and see even an NP...are you having Any leg Pain, heaviness with this ?
i'm so sorry to tell you this. i mean you can always try, but i've always been treated really badly. and you will have "drug seeker" written all over your chart and it will be hard to get pain management in the future

I used to have the same thing for years on end to the point I had to slather pain rub on my feet several times a day. My big toe hurt so bad I couldn't sleep at night. It was all myofascial pain and isn't a problem any longer--or if it is, I know how to deal with it.
If you decided to try to get some relief at home, I'd try the hot soaking with Epsom Salt.
