I typed out a whole check in because I will probably barely be able to think tomorrow, and I copied and pasted, and my iPad lost it -_-
Thanks all for the well wishes for my race. It went really well despite my anxiety. I spent the entire morning and almost half the race thinking about how I didn't want to run this morning. And for no good reason because I was well prepared and the weather was perfect-50 degrees and sunny, with a slight sea breeze. I ended up finishing in 3:49:31, which is 7 minutes faster than my last race and almost 10 minutes faster than the same race last year. Then when I got home, Nox and Noah were hanging out in the window, which is huge because I've spent 5 months trying to get them to not kill each other. They're not best friends or anything but it's progress. It's supposed to rain most of the day tomorrow and unfortunately I have to work Thursday because someone's on vacation so I have a lot of cooking/food prep. And even without the rain I'm gonna be sore AF. And now I'm hungry again so I need to drag myself off the couch. Shout out to Leo, I hope your arm is less painful today!
And here's proof that the boys can play nice

I'm alive, I'm sleeping like a rock, and for some reason I wanted cherry juice so that seems to be helping. (??? Weirdo that I am.)***Infamous therapies over history:1. The Attic. The madwoman in the attic is a motif in literature going waaaaaay back: the nutty female relative is locked in the attic. Welcome to the Perseid meteor showers, the "biggies" usually every year. (The Leonids beat 'em one year IMHO).AND today much of the northern hemisphere will see 5 to 99% solar eclipse. How cool is that? Your best bet is to be in the UK or norhtern Spain, where totality is excellent before sundown. Me, I'll get a super duper tiny itty bitty slice of it, so little that it won't be noticeable. New...

The marathon comes from a Greek soldier who ran from Marathon, Greece to Athens(roughly 25 miles) to alert them that the Persian army was defeated. He yelled "Niki!" (Meaning victory!) and then promptly collapsed and died
The first modern marathon was in the 1896 Athens Olympics and it was 24.85 miles long
After that marathon courses varied in distance, it was around 25 miles but they didn't really care about precise numbers because everyone ran the same course
The first annual marathon was Boston, which started in 1897
The first 26 mile marathon was at the London Olympics in 1908 I think. They increased the distance so the finish line would be right under the royal family's viewing window at Windsor castle. The start was also at Windsor castle. There was more that I can't remember, sorry
They didn't standardize the 26.2 mile distance til about 13 years after that. I had the conversion to km and can only remember it was around 42
The first woman to complete a marathon was Katherine Switzer in 1967. She entered the Boston marathon as a man because women weren't allowed to enter. Officials tried to physically stop her but she fought them off and finished. She was a badass for sure.
The current record for the fastest marathon is 2:01:39, set in Berlin last year by Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya. Nike tried to get people to run a sub-2 hour marathon on a closed course with pacers in a v-formation to reduce wind resistance and they got someone to finish at around 2:00:30, but because of the modifications and because it wasn't a sanctioned race, it didn't count toward that, they just wanted to see if it could be done
There are marathons on the north pole and Antarctica. They run on ice and polar bears are a legitimate concern. Even if it didn't cost literally thousands, I would never do this
There was more, but at least this is most of it. Not sure what the iPad did but it was pasting something else into a document, and DS also lost it. I'm one of those people that remembers things more easily after writing or typing them so I guess that's serving me well right now
After having a great week with pretty much zero IBS, I'm suffering an awful stomach ache tonight. Despite this, I hope I can get some sleep. I'm so sleep deprived and spent church and the rest of the day trying to stay awake. I think I bombed my test today, guessed half the answers.
I figured out what to do my paper on, so I'll have to get it going tomorrow. We also hope to hear something about moving esrow along and when will the loan close. And Tuesday I have a video appointment with a nutritionist. I hope she can help me gain a few lbs back.
Have a good week, everyone.
Congratulations on a successful race! I can't imagine being able to do something like that. I'm glad your kitties are getting along better.
Blue, wow, sounds like you have a lot going on I hope everything goes well this week, with the paper and the loan. IBS is such a pain. I had a terrible attack this weekend.
This week is going to be very tough. I have a lot of pain right now; been flaring for a while. The weather is improving, but it changes so quickly that never helps. I also have a meeting with my boss tomorrow that I'm absolutely dreading. It's time to start talking about my annual review. June 2019 will mark 2 years of working after five years of not. For one of those years I was a temporary employee, but I've been a full time employee for a year now. Assuming things go well, it should mean a small raise and my sick time going from 5 days a year to 10.
The issue is that my boss isn't a nice person, and she's not consistent. She'll tell me to do things one way, then tell me the complete opposite, and revise history in her head so that it's always my fault. She's also very condescending toward me because we don't have a lot in common. It's hard to explain. I think it'll still go okay, but it's hard to deal with her. Don't wanna.
I'm trying to deal with my depression--trying to convince myself that I really am doing okay, that I'm doing the best I can, and that I'm not falling short. That I'm "enough." The depression makes it so hard to like myself.
Wish you all a restful day.
blue go easy on yourself:-)
ZK wish ou luck with boss.
Found out could lose use of right thumb and blah blah blah
Blue, sorry to hear that your stomach is bothering you again. Hopefully the nutritionist will be able to help.
ZK, so sorry about the boss problems! BTDT and have the shirt to prove it. Are you seeing someone for your depression?
Leo, wow! Prayers going out for you.
The weekend was rough for me. We had cooler weather and rain both days. I did get to the gym yesterday, so I call that a small victory. We don't have anything scheduled today and then the week fills in again with errands and appointments. I need to do some small things around the house, but not a lot. The cleaning lady comes on Wednesday, so I won't bother to run my small vacuum on the rugs. We're dragging in the dried grass from the lawn being mowed and it just adds up quickly on the rugs in front of the doors.
I am back in the office and trying to be very cautious with my body. It is already pretty sore so I took some advil in hopes of catching it before it goes too far down hill. I really don't know what else to do. The IBS-D started up again Saturday so of course the two are just feeding off each other. Does anyone have any advice on what I can do to get this flare to stop? This is week 4, any advice at all?
Blue I'm sorry your IBS is flaring again and you're not getting any sleep. It's hard to think to take a test or do much of anything when you can't sleep. I really hope you were able to get some rest so the rest of the week can start on a higher note.
Zombie I am sorry to hear you are dreading the meeting with your boss. If you're anything like me dreading it has far more to do with what we create in our minds than their personalities. That on top of a bad personality in your boss is just a horrible mix. You will be in my thoughts and prayers as always.
Leo I'm so sorry to hear you might loose the use of your right thumb! That is horrible. I will be thinking of you and praying for you.
PainedOne I'm glad to hear you made it to the gym. Sorry the weather wasn't the best and is sending you into pain; I'm in the same boat. I'm glad you will have the cleaning lady coming this week and that takes some pressure off of you.
Sending hugs and love to Fantod, Wonder, Twin, Bear and the rest of our gang.
Miki, glad you had a good run despite your anxiety working against you. It's like a judo kick in the nads of anxiety! Way to go!
And I'm glad the cats are managing to find and share the same space. That will only get better.
Blue, I'm so sorry your tummy troubles are back. And I hope you didn't bomb your test. You've had a lot on your plate lately and know that it's okay. It was just one test, there will be others that can make up for it.
Zombie, one of my first office jobs, I had a manager who was like that that I filled in for on the phones. But because that was only 1hr of my day, her say still had an impact on my reviews. Long story short? I left, doubled my pay and I was rid of her. I didn't get stabbed in the back for about another 5 yrs after that. It's because of people like her, why I hold a strong (negative) opinion about women in power positions. If you can be nice to one and not nice to others all because you didn't get to choose them, tells me that really you can't work with everyone. But this lady, was like Meryl Streep in Devil Wears Prada, minus the clothes and stuff. LOL. Just the attitude.
And I was under the same attack this past weekend with IBS. Some days there just is not enough imodium!
Leo, wait...what? Why would you loose the use of your thumb? Is it a nerve thing? Will your bionics weaken the muscles or something? I presume you have docs who are working on saving it right?
Please continue to heal...all of you, including your bestie (right thumb).
Pained...we had that same cold and wet weekend. Add to that the dead grass coming in...I tried raking this weekend....in the rain, just to try and prevent some of it from tracking in.
BUT...
I will take some dead blades of grass over the mud-monsoon we had last year at this time.
Maynard, Yes, what is it with flares and springtime and IBS-D?? I'm over here popping Imodium like they are M&M's. (okay, not literally) But, it seems like it.
So far my tricks are, eat what I want and then follow it up with some activia yogurt. What ever is in that stuff, make my tummy a happier place. If not, I look like the Jeff Daniel's bathroom scene from Dumb and Dumber.
Well, the big dumb forecast is calling for something like a foot or so of snow this week. I call bullsquirt! The farmers almanac say it was going to be sunny and cooler. I know I lost my $20 on that bet already, but I am hoping it's more rain than snow. This will literally be a repeat from last year at the exact same time. I just want it to melt by Easter!!!
And because I want to rake up the rest of the yard, I need to get out there in the next couple of days.
After that, I need to help the boys with their math. Have I ever mentioned I hate math? Thank goodness for Khan Academy! And then I need to be all domestic and stuff...it's a day filled with Yatzee chances, lets see if I can get it all done!
Hope everyone is having a good day. Hugs to all of you.
Blue I am amazed that you aren't in a full blown bout. There is so much going on in your mind and body all the time with all you are handling. I think you are a rock star lol. I hate when IBS comes to play at the worst moment.
ZK I hate that your boss treats you that way. I hope the time with her is a positive one and you get that raise.
Leo oh no you can't lose the thumb! I am going to pray and believe for you that it will not happen. I hope your pain is letting up some.
Pained One I hope you have a good week. I hate when the flowers off the trees gets brought in on my carpet and rugs. It seems they are everywhere.
Maynard I hope your week at work goes smoothly. I wish you felt more up to it. IBS and work can be hard to juggle.
Wonder I hate math. I never was able to do algebra. My creative mind just doesn't accept letters as numbers for some reason. I always sided on creative writing. I hope you don't get too much snow. We have had snow as late as the 20th of April before. I hope you are able to get the chores done and have some fun with the boys.
I had horrible pain yesterday and had to take a muscle relaxer to help it. That meant sleep all afternoon and evening. I was surprised that I slept last night but I got another 10 hours. I still need to do that dusting so I guess that is what I will work on today. Those dust bunnies aren't going to go away.
Hi to Ida I am thinking about you and praying for healing. Hi to twins too.
I hope you all have a good day.
Leo, oh no.... really not cool. What is the reason? Will PT help retain some usage?
Pained, rain = ouch! Yay on making it to the gym.
Maynard, have you tried a food journal? Or the Low FODMAP diet to see if it helps any of the IBS symptoms? Maybe start there.
Wonder, I can't believe you're getting a foot of snow. But then again I remember May of 2003, I was stationed at Quantico MCB, and we got a blizzard that brought 3 feet of snow. Guess who got stuck on plow duty? Yup, this gal. I remember that we broke every single one of our plow trucks because they weren't equipped to handle that much snow. lol
Autumn, hooray sleep! Now if there was a way you could share some of that, that would be great. Aww.... thanks for your kind words of support, it means a lot. Every day I can't help feeling like I've failed at something.
Autumn it sounds like your body really needed the rest if you slept that much meds or no. I hear you on the dusting, I really do wish there were fairies that would just come do that for us.
Blue I tried the Low FODMAP diet with no results. I am trying tracking everything I eat now to see if I can figure anything out. It is clear so far that refined sugar makes the fibro worse for sure.
Angela I'm sorry the gout has you in so much pain. I hope the meds kick in soon. Could you do a skype meeting with your sponsor later in the week just so you have something on the books for encouragement? (besides us of course)
Angela, so sorry you hurt so much, glad you cancelled the week. Just take care of you, ok? Big hugs and hope you feel better soon.
Autumn, thank you so much. It really helps to hear it from someone looking in from the outside. I guess to me it feels like I'm peddling and peddling and not going anywhere (for all the efforts, where are the results?). But you're totally right about how much I will be proud of myself once I'm sitting on my own porch enjoying the fruits of all this labor.
Maynard, sorry the Low Fodmap didn't help... sigh. I hope at least a food journal can be of assistance. If sugar bothers your symptoms, make sure you track if sweeteners do also. I can't handle them, they make me so sick... I've had to go back to plain ol' sugar, nothing else, not even honey. Good luck and keep us posted.
Autumn, I just read an article about allergists now using immunosuppressive tablets instead of shots to tame allergies. Apparently, this approach works a lot better than traditional shots. Might be worth investigating given how much you suffer.
I'm one finger typing on my Kindle. Just wanted to confirm that I'm around and kicking. Shout out to Bear and Leo!
