My sister has MS and a year ago she started transitioning to the Paleo diet. She has had no flare ups since and is now off her medication. She is part of a group that has many people whose testimonials have stated their long term and chronic health conditions including FM have improved as well as weight loss. I have been on the road to transition to Paleo diet since May and I have lost 25 pounds without really trying to hard plus my FM flares arent as bad I believe as they could be. If interested I would encourage you to simply google Paleo diet and you will find tons of resources.
Eat small meals (portion control), chew food slowly and thoroughly (put the fork down between each bite).
Give up high calorie beverages; if you must drink juice: pour half juice half water.
Drink extra water through out the day, and a big glass before each meal.
Absolutely, Do Not eat late at night!!! (At least 5 hours before bedtime).
That's pretty much what I do. Now if you have gained weight because of medication, you will have to go on a low calorie diet first, and then try my suggestions for maintenance.
And, I love the idea of writing down everything you eat for one week (daily food journal), even if it's only a bit of this or that. You would be amazed!
Good luck
There is good advice here on what to eat. Combine diet and exercise.
Gentle hugs
For me? Eat less, move more, even fi it's small movements, and I avoid processed foods. I eat (mostly) low-fat. I am a vegetarian anyway, so no big diet transition needed for me. Cooking from scratch is a big key for me. I control content, so if I want to tweak (say, try life without gluten, which made no change even after 6 months).... I am not running around reading packages or buying stuff labeled "Gluten Free" or anything that sucks me into the store and makes me feel like I'm nothing but a test gerbil for some fad.
But that is me.
Persistence is a big one, too.
My hubby is a juicing fanatic. He's kept off weight by substituting a glass of juice (the health fanatic stuff with kale, celery, et cetera) for a meal. Lots of nutrients, the taste numbs him to wanting to eat (his words, not mine) and he's full.
Mind you, he bought the fancy juice-bar-grade juice machine.
luck and blessing to us all
All I can advise it small frequent eating. I try to walk so do 5 or 10 minutes few times a day.
I have had fibro for over twenty years and I can't do what I could do a few years ago
Guess green bean diet only. Hope you can eat what you want,
Today, I follow a paleo diet and it helps keep my weight under control as well, as helping to keep my fibro in check. I avoid the foods that I have found out that I am intolerant too, as well as eating paleo and it has truly helped me. Best Wishes!
Don't drive yourself crazy worrying about exercise, as exercise in and of itself will not make you lose weight. It's important to move, to keep your muscles healthy and toned, whether it helps you to lose weight or not. Toned muscles help to prevent injuries doing what I call "stupid things" like getting out of bed, which can exacerbate our pain. As someone else said, muscle burns more calories than fat, so over time, better muscle tone will help to maintain weight - added benefit - a pound of muscle is less "mass" than a pound of fat, so you'll look better in your clothes even at the same weight.
Healthy weight is a lifestyle - don't think of it as a "diet" but as a lifestyle change.
