Well -Ive just made a big discovery about what is going on with my crazy body!
A break-through at last.
The surgeon I saw last week was incredibly curt and non-talkative - looked at my latest MRI films and just said 'I don't think surgery will help, but I agree exactly with your previous MRI report findings'. Nothing else.
I had lost the original letter written by Pain specialist to Accident Insurance explaining what the problem was. I searched the house yesterday, and finally found another 15 page report by the Insurance Doctor, quoting Dr Laubscher (Pain Specialist) which detailed exactly which vertebrae were prolapsed (C5/6/7) and described probable Cervical Zygapophyseal (a non-inflammatory degenerative joint disease characterized by progressive pain, stiffness, decreased range of motion in arms and hands) as well as probable Fibromyalgia
Has anyone else heard of this Zygapophyseal???
(quite a mouthfull!)
I googled it, found some very clear explanations which describe my symptoms exactly and now make perfect sense of the mysterious pain and weakness in my arms and hands getting worse lately. Good news: Caused by trauma of accident so Insurance will cover (most) of the treatment and referrals.
Bad news: it gets worse with age (is degenerative) and surgery can't help. the pain is caused by damaged tissues and the area around the spinal chord being traumatised.
I can't believe my GP did not even read that analysis in my medical records!
Ive been in her surgery almost every week in tears with the pain yet she still seems to think I am just 'depressed' and suggested SSRI's and counselling.
Time to change doctors!
I did manage to get her to refer me to a Rheumatologist first (thanks to this forum I knew this was the correct procedure)
I have finally found a Phyisio practice which is 100% funded for Insurance claimants and start today, then Rheumatologist, maybe a pain specialist.
Waiting to hear back from Insurance now to see if they will actually cover the Rheumatologist ..otherwise have to go on hospital waiting list.
Wow - I am not going crazy or imagining this pain!
have been feeling very down not knowing what was going on and to finally have some answers is such a relief.
Woke up this morning in very bad spasm of pain and couldnt get out of bed for an hour..so looking forward to getting some physio today.
Would love to hear from anyone else who has heard of this condition.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
I pray you find relief and the pain dissipates.
