I'd be torn if I were you. You can't allow yourself to get all blocked up as much as quitting Cymbalta cold turkey.
Is there another med you can take in replace of the cymbalta? So that you can stop the cymbalta now....yet slowly lower the SNRI levels in your body so you can quit it?
I hope your doc can help. My prayers are with you hun!
I just recently read an article that serotonin levels can influence IBS. I had never heard that before. Remember SSRI's (serotonin reuptake inhibitors) like Cymbalta doesn't help your body produce serotonin, it just keeps your brain from "taking it up". Once you're off the Cymbalta, you may look into the supplement 5-HTP for serotonin help for both your sleep and digestive track.
Also, weren't you fighting some kind of infection awhile back that required antibiotics? You should be taking a probiotic to get your gut loaded with the good bacteria that the antibiotic wiped out. What most people don't realize is that it can take your body over 10 years to naturally build up the good bacteria in your stomach after just one round of antibiotics! You can eat yogurt until you burst and it won't build up enough of the good stuff. After antibiotics, you really need a decent probiotic to take for about a month or so.
One other thing that helps you to go naturally is flax meal or ground flax seeds. The oil itself won't help as well. Fix yourself a bowl of oatmeal and put in 3 heaping spoonfuls of flax meal before you cook it. Also, I think the regular oats are better than the quick oats. The prepackaged stuff is horrible. Just remember to add a little salt to the plain stuff to make it taste better. (the prepackaged stuff is actuall loaded with sodium) The flax meal adds more fiber but also a natural lubricant, so to speak. It's also not a fiber that doubles you over like wheat products. Most grocery stores now carry flax meal. It's usually with the specialty flour products.
Here's a link to the article I read about IBS that included the info on serotonin and probiotics:

I hope you get results soon. I know how painful it can be. Big hugs!
i just tried to call them and the rheumatologist isn't in, she only comes in 2x a month. i tried making an appt, too, but they are booked till Nov. so now i'm tryin to a hold of my PCM. hopefully she can issue me a lower dosage to take for a week and then start skipping it like misunshine said to do. i, too, get the brain ZAPS!

The fact that we are soooo sensitive to medications is one of my biggest gripes about FM. I get terrified to take anything.
Good luck and I hope things get better!
