I have a story to relate that happened to me when I was 22 or so (give or take a year or two) back in the early 80s. It was about some bad medication reactions. I dont remember the names of the drugs but I am fairly sure they were antidepressants. One of them caused me to have hallucinations. I remember seeing something like large black roaches on the floor or on the walls that were not there.

Then there was this absolutely horrible experience where another drug caused me to feel like someone had cut a section of my skull off the top of my head exposing my raw brain and then started rubbing a rough brick against it. WHEW it was BAD, BAD INDEED.

Back then FM and CFS were not talked about or even mentioned. Yeah, the doctors could not find anything wrong with me except the elevated bilirubin count in my blood. One doctor said behind my back that I was schizophrenic to my ex before we were married. Thanks doc. Why didnt you tell me? Sheesh!

I will admit I went through some very, very bad times back then. When you become psychotic and can see things with your eyes closed, which I did by the way, well you know something is not right. Anyway I was just wondering if anyone else has had some bad medication reactions stories.

Sorry to here about this Randy,
With either type legal or street I have not had the side effect (showing my age), of any drug but my son had back about 4 years ago a bad experiance with pot and this caused his issue with panic attacks he can have mult a day. And yes he has panic attacks that are like flash backs with the out of body, seeing things that are not there the feeling he's about to die and hallucinations it scares me two think of his future, if thats what you are referring to with the med reraction thing? At least this made him learn the hard way to wake up of the effects of drugs!

I can identify with the feeling of coming out of your body and the feeling that youre about to die. Yes, I went through that too during that time. I wasnt on any other drugs other than that antidepressant and I was extremely depressed I think it was call accindin (I know that is spelled wrong) or something like that.

Yep, been there, done that and I DONT EVER WANT TO GO BACK!

I had a bad reaction to neurotin-extreme panic it was horrible. Antihistamines and decongestants make me psycho and speedy (even Benedryl) Since I have had fibro I have developed severe itching type reactions to meds like tramadol,vicodin, and others. In my twenties I had a severe reaction to aspirin- my face looked like an alien, and other horrible things. When I have tried antidepressants in the past I usually feel drugged for awhile there is an adjustment period. Nothing like you described Randy-thats horrible. I take Zoloft now but I think I am building a tolerance to it.

I had a reaction to an anti-inflammatory drug called Dolobid back in the 80's...a very severe case of hives. I had taken the drug for about a year and then stopped when the condition I was taking it for improved. When the condition surfaced again I asked for the Dolobid because it had been a successful treatment. After 1 day of it I erupted with hives...too too many hives...I made it to the walk in clinic in time - ie: before my throat closed up.

Randy, I too have been experimented on with med's (feel like a old lab rat) . Have had some awful bad reactions, allergic ones, sick ones, etc. Lyrica made me see grey fuzz like a bad black n white TV screen for one. Some antidepressants are dangerous, and the side effects awful. In limbo now looking for a good fibro doc still, after 15 years of medical abuse for the most part.

@Havalah61 - Yeah, I hear you about feeling like a lab rat. I haven't been to see a doctor in 15 years. Really I think it is more like 18 years. And right now I am not on any meds at all.

Randy Good for you!

My goodness if I do not have "my Maple" as the commerical years ago went, my legs start to spaz out as the nerves go full blown into a mode I hate as they are now starting to do since the clock is slowing nearing next dose.

I wish I could stop the Neurontin or as I call it Neurotton.

I wake up needing a dose as my whole body is spazing out in the middle of the night, yes I need to call the Doctor to once again increase it, as I do monthy.

You are a string man I have fought off the Vicoden urgesn but the neurotton is a must.

I give you credit and you hold great hope for us to be drug free?

I want everyone to know that I am not advocating coming off your meds. Please dont look at me as an example to be like. It is just that I am so outdone with everything that I just didnt care one way or another. For me it seems the meds often times causes as much trouble or more trouble than the problem itself.

It is just my personal way of dealing with it. Mizrose sent me information on the advances made since I last tried so who knows but maybe I should. I dont know. Im not making any promises.

I have had in the past about 20 years ago that I had a very positive meds experience. I will have to make that my next post.

Amatriptyline - hives
Nortriptyline - Extreme dreams which led to horrific nightmares that kept me awake for days on end.

Lyrica - Dystonia. (where my body froze and I could only move my eyes for 3+hrs...and this was on the smallest dose 1 pill)

Neurontin - Extreme rage.

Cymbalta - hives,loved the decreased appetite though.

Celexa - depression

Melatonin - nightmares

And a whole slue of oral antibiotics. Some made my gums swell and left a sunburn like rash on my chest. Others, I feel like my stomach is withering up and dying.

And codeine....that doubles me over for 3 days with horrible stomach cramps.

Not left with a whole lot that I can take.

Ya Cymbalta gave my hellucinations...I cooked in my sleep with Lunesta or Ambien....I had bad physical tremors with something else...Neurontin made me neurotic....one made me studder nonstop for a month....some made me puke/naseaus or forget what peoples names were...Amitryptyline made me a zombie who never woke up...some made me forget what I wanted to say or what I just said so i repeated myslef 3 or 4 times....Holy Crap...

Lyrica made me feel like someone drilled holes in my shoulders and hips...one was making me faint and dizzy....Still can't remember the name of the one that gave me tremors..some don't work at all...even if they don't give you side effects that are unbearable so it's not worth taking the pill.. I worry about what it's doing to me that I will pay for years down the road...

Paxil made me see mice running around on the floor! Neurrotten was rotten too! What is in these drugs? No thank you, I will deal with my symptoms without padding the big pharms wallets.

Oh yeah major problem with some antidepressants. I was totally in another world. Fuzzy brain and became suicidal. Yikes really awful feeling. hugs marilyn

I have had the same reaction to drugs. Sleeping pills left me awake three hours later, Lyrica made me suicidial only taking 100 mgs, Lortabs make me itch all over really bad(don't know which was worse the pain or the severe itching), and codeine gives me a rash, the rest just did not seem to work. I only take ibprufin(over-the-counter) now when I hurt the most.
