Fibromyalgia Support Group
You're not alone in your pain. Fibromyalgia is a condition that can be difficult to diagnose and manage. If you're trying to cope with pain throughout your body, sleep problems, general fatigue, or other common fibromyalgia symptoms, you're in the right place. The community is here for you to talk about therapies and share your challenges.
Dr. Myhill I believe is the leading expert and you could probably get a lot of information from her site:

Basically, mitochondria are in all but your red blood cells and are key to converting ATP to ADp, without which conversion your cells do not produce energy.... and in a long and complicated chemical process, involving enzymes etc., this whole deal boils down to whether or not your body is producing energy properly at a cellular level; how well it responds to exertion; and even your body's pH. Mitochondrial dysfunction is considered a partial factor in chronic fatigue.
What causes mitochondrial dysfinction is its own issue. I have heard diet theories, viral theories, and it is basically established that there are two kinds of mitochondrial dysfunction: genetic and acquired. and naturally just about any health problem can cause it.... or be caused by it... You know how it is, researchers get all wound up abput the next hot thing (viruses, genes, take your pick). Some are hot for mitochondria as the cause of everything, etc etc... I tend to not jump aboard a band wagon, too much timeas a young lab rat myself, LOL.
Did that help?
If not, sorry. i am workong off memory. May be less clear than I think.
Good luck, and do not be shy asking your doc:-)
