i have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, i am 24 and a mother to 4 young children, the pain i get is so bad some days that i can't every stand or hold a cup of tea without pain, even on one of my better days i can only walk for bout 15 mins before my feet hurt so much it hurts to put weight on them, it hurts to hold my arms up to brush my daughters hair, simply tasks like washing pots, mashing potatoes, showering my kids all cause pain it even hurts for my 7mth old baby to sit on my knee, can i claim for dla?
I am UK based too...I have been awarded the High rate mobility and mid-rate care components of the DLA.
Please PM me etc if you want any other info.....you will probably find you are entitled to much more financial help too (although actually getting the others is quite complex in practise).
tawny i do believe you can apply, for care and mobility, you need to see benefit advisor, maybe someone at CAB, i'll try to post bit more detail tomorrow when i dig out the info i found, but too tired to do it tonight i'm afraid.
i have looked into it but i haven't got dx officially yet, so haven't applied yet for fibro, altho i get lower rate care for narcolepsy, if you google 'dla fibromyalgia' you should get lots of info, but i'll post more when i can
