It's almost been a year since I applied for disability. I applied last March, got denied, applied again in July.. went to the disability doctor on the 4th of January.. still waiting. It's amazing how they can just wait until the last minute to make their decision.. since it's been taking so long, I had to struggle making ends meet, working on my feet even though it made the pain a thousand times worse.. HAD to quit in December, couldn't take it anymore.. now my car insurance is going to expire, as well as my phone bill.. my poor husband is struggling trying to support me and our new house.. it's unbelievable. I have this weird feeling I'm going to be denied again because of my "age". Ugh. I can't deal with this.

Keep the faith, I went through the same thing, when I applied. My advice, is too make sure you have all you're medical records, and tests, all in order. A good doctor who is 100%, percent behind you. The other important thing, is too find a good lawyer. It helps in the long run.
It's a long, and hard process, and many give up, and try to go back to work. Bad idea. It's a game, you have to play, by there rules. Good Luck.

jquick is right it took my husband a while but the lawyer and his doctor made the difference. hang in there relief will come.

Hi, I applied last May and was denied in October. We had my doctors fill out the paperwork and resent everything plus new stuff, updated stuff etc. Wednesday we got the denial letter. My lawyer says the only reason he thinks they can be denying is my age. I have all of the medical stuff I need. I was incredibly angry and spent two days crying and wanting to kill myself because I feel like such a burden.

I am trying to find my faith and hope. I often feel worthless and a burden to the people around me. I have a lot of guilt. It is hard to believe I will ever get approved even with a hearing. I always had faith in God but lately I am so incredibly angry.

Hi, I'm in the same boat except neither one of us works. I just signed up the papers for the attorney to represent me. I said to myself, screw this, at least least I would pay them to do this for me. Well. sort of. If you like, we could form a support group of some sort for pple waiting for disability. Aaaah. Seriously. They are almost waiting for us to die so they don't pay.

Im from the same state as you and was 32 when I got approved at my hearing. I dont think it could be your age at all.
I had one denial letter then a hearing which I got approved at. There was about an 18 month wait between my first denial letter and my hearing date.
Im not sure why you would get two denial letters and no hearing. Who is your lawyer? Do you have other reasons for disability besides fibro? Did you work while trying to get disability?

You said you had been working but quit in December. If you had been able to work while waiting for disability then technically they can look at you as not being disabled. I understand how you are feeling, but if you were working during your time your disability claim is in process then another denial could happen. Technically disabled is someone unable to work and you have proven that you could work during the time of waiting for disability. I would talk to your attorney and get his/her insight on your situation.

I tried to work while waiting for a hearing. I only lasted 2 weeks. The judge actually liked it that I tried again.

I applied and found out that it takes at least one year to be denied. I think it would be easier to hire an attorney to back u up. If you are not allowed to work during this time how do you pay your bills? Especially if you are single? You can't even file for unemployment. This gov't is ridiculous.

Lindad, I know I went for almost a year without income and lost my apartment, used up most of my savings on COBRA it isn't easy. And to be honest, if you are single the money you receive isn't that much to survive on.

it is frustrated, i know i got mine within a year, i didn't have a lawyer,but i had a dr behind, me and a huge paper trail, i think they keep denying people thinking you will give up, it took my sister who has lupus, fibro, arthritis, and many other rare diagnosis, 3 years to get hers, just don't give, up, it will be hard, i was a registered nurse, so when i had to quit it decreased our combined income, to a third of what we were used to, but just don't give, up, try to find a good lawyer, and just keep trying,

It seems like the norm to be denied the first time, but it also seems stupid. I received my denial letter yesterday. I have fibro and PTSD. My husband agrees with Jerrysgirl that the SS admin hopes we'll give up. I emailed an atty that advertises specifically for disablility claims. I'm praying that the Lord will help me because, like so many of us I worked until I couldn't anymore. I was let go. I'll pray for you too, xobliquityx.

Hang in there and don't give up. My wait was 2 years before approval. I'm told that is normal waiting time for my state. After the second denial I got an attorney. That made all the difference. Plus I had been referred to a well known Dr that knew how to fill out the paper work correctly. When I saw how some of the Drs filled out the forms I understood why it took so long.

I am not sure where you are but I applied a year ago and I got a letter of approval for my disability and the back pay awarded , but 3 months have gone by and still no payment. I phoned and they say it's being processed. I don't understand how long it takes to types a letter out of a computer and a payment. Us too like you are getting tighter and tighter with only my husbands income.Thank god I went on his medical plan the year before. I wish you luck, maybe ask your doctor if there has beeen any corespondence from disability. hope this helps isabee
