So I'm trying to heal from a severe sprain 3 months ago. Still. The ankle still has areas of swelling in it. The MRI showed a completely torn ligament, sprains in other ligaments on both sides of the ankle and an stage I osteochondral lesion on my talus dome. I spent three weeks in a cast (non weight bearing) and am now in a boot for 4 weeks (weight bearing). There has been no talk of PT or surgery to repair any of the damage. Because, you know, at 40YO slightly overweight female with a chronic pain condition will just heal on her own with enough time...
As if this weren't fun enough with a chronic pain condition, my knee on the other side is swollen, painful and has a compromised range of motion. This problem was the first one that flared up 6 years ago and no one ever found out why.. It did get to the point where I couldn't walk on it.
I am so gun-shy in dealing with doctors at this point, that I think I'll just wait until i can't walk at all and see about being seen. Then maybe they'll stop telling me that it isn't a big deal and to understand that I am just getting older.
No one will even give me meds to help go to sleep so I can heal.
I have started taking Benadryl to facilitate sleep which works well enough, but I don't stay asleep because eventually, something hurts and awakens me.
Just needed to vent.

Stupid ole fibro just makes the pain 2000 times worse.
Maybe a cortisone shot in the swollen knee might help, not sure though. I would say just have faith in your ortho about your ankle and be patient, he is the specialist.

Things came to a head today. We had state testing today and even though I was given a light duty style job, I was still up so much that I was in extreme pain when my duty was over. I went back to my classroom and cried. I called my husband who called the dr's office in a protective husbandly sort of fit. Apparently that was the precipitating factor and something was finally called in for me. I am waiting for the tramdol to kick in.
