PS it's not about the number of times you post. If you need to vent here, vent here, don't hold it in because that is not good for us.
That is awesome that they are getting you a stove!! One less thing on your mind.
I also have a hard time receiving things from people, it makes me feel awkward. I am so used to being a giver and doing everything for everyone.
However, I realized that by denying something that someone wants to give us, it takes their joy away. Their joy is to give and when we deny that, we hurt them. Think back to a time when you did something nice for someone, what if they said to you, I can't take that or no thanks. How would you feel? So, this is what I do now when someone wants to help me, I put myself in their shoes and realize. I thank them graciously and I make sure that I sent them a beautiful thank you note.
I am sorry that you are in so much pain from doing all that you had to do to get ready for the stove. I hate housework myself!!
I hope that you get some pain relief and that you have a happier evening.

Also, don't forget that there are ways to volunteer right from home!! You can send out birthday/anniversary/get well cards to people that you know (from church, neighborhood etc). You can also do the same thing but with calling people who may be sick or down in the dumps. Email is another way too send out cards.
Or making a batch of cookies, brownies etc and delivering them to a nursing home floor. Also, asking about people who are in a nursing home who don't get any visitors, the nurse can tell you which ones don't get visitors. You can stop by and help brighten their day, all at your own convenience...once a week etc.

All of your responses has given me comfort and I thank each of you. TW
With the volounteering thing there are usually lots to choose from. More than we think actually. Even when it comes to the church if they know about your situation you can always be a spare. If I actually make it to church functions and feel up to it I'll help out in the kitchen. Nobody ever puts me on the spot and asks because they know, but if I can then that means someone else can have a break. Depending on what your interests are some things can be done from home as they are mostly phone committees. If you have a local YWCA that could be a good place to look. They may have a large variety of programs that need different kinds of assistance. For years I was involved with our local training board but even though it's called local it really wasn't. Therefore most of our meetings were held via conference calls. Nobody knew if I was in my jammies on the couch. LOL Some nursing homes need volounteers to help with activities for the residents. Sitting and playing BINGO with them and such. Think about what interests you, what you enjoy and go from there. Most communities need lots of volounteers. It's a good feeling. Good luck.
