Hi All,
Over the last couple of weeks, I have suddenly begun losing hair pretty dramatically. I've always had some issues with hair loss (especially when stressed) but it was just the kind of situation where suddenly the tub is getting clogged or when you're shampooing you're noticing more than normal come out and you think - uh oh I must be more stressed than I thought...
but this is different. Suddenly, I'm developing a receding hair line - to the point where above my left temple it is essentially a bald patch. The hair line is thinning but also the hair is breaking so that I almost look like I intentionally have bangs bc the remaining hairline hair is down to 2 inches or so... I read about hair loss with Fibro but it seemed more to be overall thinning or a bald patch developing in the back... nothing about a receding hairline.
While it's the least disruptive symptom I'm experiencing, it's possibly bringing me the most distress. I know this sounds so vain and conceited... but I already feel so unattractive from pain and weight gain and feeling lethargic... to also be losing my hair is so depressing :(
Has anyone experienced a receding hairline from this? any chance it will grow back after a flare? or is this just part of things now... I've had tons and tons of bloodwork done so according to results I don't have issues with my thyroid, etc. that would otherwise be causing this... and while I am stressed at the moment from this new diagnosis... things are actually much, much less stressful than a couple of months ago when I had other major life events going on.
:( Thanks for any words of wisdom!

Today (August 8) is INternational Cat Day. Don't click away! International DOG day is August 26! Both were created to raise aweareness and funds for the well-being of critters. We have many such dayts, to the pint that every day is like an old Catholic saints' day calendar: Take your pick!I'm home, obvs, and still ill. Left calf and foot not great after a tangle-fall, but i'll live. Just can't...

I'nm exhausted. This doxycycline thing has ripped me apart and I'm eating crackers and water. I can't take (anything) or eat (anything) except saltines and toast and maybe unbuttered watery mashed potatoes. Are we sure the cure isn't worse than the possible disease?!?!And a week to go. ***Fun cures that WERE worse than the disease:ARsenic. Popular against STDs, which just compounded misery...

If the hair is coming off in patches, you should definitely see a dermatologist. Stress related hair loss is more diffuse all over.
I don't mean to scare you, but autoimmune disease can cause hair loss too.
I had hair loss for several years too. I thought it was due to autoimmune disease (I was misdiagnosed with sjogrens instead of fibro). I saw a dermatologist specializing in hair loss and was assured that I didn't have anything serious because it was diffuse (mostly the crown area). It was probably due to stress or aging. She recommended rogaine, so I used it but didn't really know if it was helping--until I stopped using it for a month. That's when I noticed my hair thinner again.
For several years, I notice steady hair loss punctuated by a sudden burst of more hair loss for a week or so, then back to the steady hair loss. The doc said it's the hair growth cycle.
Then, a wonderful thing happened! I cut my hair to a pixie cut! (It's been 3 months.) Oh, what a difference! Immediately, no more hair loss! I guess all those knots in longer hair made my combing pull them out some more. I continue with the rogaine though. (I was told that you have to use it for life to keep its effectiveness.)
But to be safe, I'd check it out with a dermatologist.
I don't think it's autoimmune bc I've had just about every test in the book to rule things out prior to the fibro diagnosis...
Maybe the delay makes sense? My dad died over Christmas and it was a really horrible situation so maybe this is residual?
It's just strange bc I've experienced hair loss from stress before but it's always just been that type where a bunch comes out as you shampoo but you don't notice it visually that much... This is legit my hairline is receding like a guy!
I will say I'm very lucky bc I have curly hair so it's not quite as noticeable accept to me when I pull my hair into a pony tail at night or when I exercise...
Fingers crossed it will slow down or stop soon...
