Hello,
I'm new to posting but have been reading a few weeks now. You seem like a very supportive, caring group. I was diagnosed about 2 years ago. I had a high level, high stress job, so I was forced to retire due to brain fog. I'm trying to get on disability but so far I've been denied. I'll be 62 in August, so
I will be able to get Social Security. My doctor wants to try me on Savella (is that the name). I'm on gabapentin now but have a lot of break through pain. In Florida no one wants to prescribe pain meds. Has anyone tried this drug? I don't see anyone currently on it. I gain strength through reading your posts.

The three primary medications used to treat Fibromyalgia are Lyrica, Cymbalta and Savella. Gabapentin is in the same class as Lyrica. I take Cymbalta and Gabapentin.
I tried Savella and had a bad reaction to it. I am extremely sensitive to medication. Everything that I use is a lower dose than the norm. Savella made me feel a lot better but it also made me cry hysterically at everything and anything. That was while I was still on the trial pack tritrating my way up in dosage. You may be just fine with this medication.
The only way to find out is to try it. Savella has been used in Europe for decades. We are all on different medications and dosages. That is part of the reason that this illness is so hard to treat. There is not one regimen that works for everyone.
Getting opioids anywhere is pretty much impossible these days. There is legislation in place now that requires a much higher level of scrutiny for doctors writing scripts for narcotics. Because the threat of losing their license is so much higher, most doctors will no longer write a script for opioids.
Have you reviewed your medical records to be sure that information that they contain is complete and accurate? Getting SSDI is not an easy process. I've been disabled since 2009. I understand your frustration.
I hope that my comments are helpful to you. Take care.
My FM regimen includes no actual meds directly *for* it. I do well with NSAID pain meds, so I'm on Celebrex, and that's about as good as it gets for me. It's really not the greatest, but the goal is *function*, if I can get it.
We are all different in how we react and how we flare and so on.
If you haven't grabbed "Fibro for Dummies" (book), it's a good read for us, and sometimes for our doctors, families, etc.
Savella reallllly helps one of my friends whose FM is secondary to another issue, it showed up because of an immunodeficiency. So I will kep fingers crossed for you:-)
