hey everyone! how's it goin! please bare with me, i have a lot to post here....
some of you may remember that i have been fighting a kidney infection... well i'm 100% recovered from that now!
but last week i was having horrendous stomach pain for a week straight (another ibs flare) and it didn't matter if i went to the bathroom or not, it still hurt like hell.
so i went on the net and did some research... found some stuff about needing digestive enzymes, cleanses, the built up undigested toxic food against the walls of your intestines, yada yada.....
i know that a lot of us have Irritable Bowel Syndrome and that it probably has something to do with our nerve endings lining our intestinal walls, and they miscommunicate with our brains and "misfire' like the rest of our irritated nerves in our bodies. BUT, what i just mentioned the paragraph above probably adds to the irritation as well.
so i found this 5 days RAW veggie and fruit cleanse i thought i should try. it's VERY strict. for the next 5 days, the following are BANNED from your diet: proteins of any kind (beans, meats, nuts, tofu, etc), dairy, starches, carbs, sweets, preservatives, no caffeinated drinks, no carbonated drinks.
The only seeds and fragments of nuts you are allowed to eat are on your salad(as toppings). Basically, if it's not a raw veggie or a raw fruit, don't eat it. fruit juices are encouraged but make sure it's no added sugar and it has no preservatives. herbal teas are good to go as well (no caffeine). and try to eat as many as organic as possible. (organic foods have the most digestive enzymes)
i wanted to post this on a day to day here but didn't have the time (sorry.....) so you're all getting the report at once now.....
here's how i responded:
DAY 1: ate salad and cut up fruit for breakfast... was still hungry, so i kept eating. ended up cleaning out the rest of the veggie drawer in the fridge. basically i felt like an endless bottomless pit of hunger. but the stomach pain was gone form the morning i started (made a huge BM after breakfast)
DAY 2: had some stomach pain for a short bit in the morn but then it went away after going 2x. Cleaned out the rest of the fruit drawer and then before the end of the day, i had to go to the store and buy a boat load of veggies and fruit to restock to fridge for the following week. i felt really tired and weak, unusually weak. like i wanted to go to sleep for a long time.
DAY 3: still very tired and weak but stomach very very pleased.
DAY 4: sleepy. ready for when it's over. made a very huge BM in the morn. saw primary doc and discussed bladder and bowel control issues etc. also talked about the cleanse i'm on. she told me that my blood pressure is 97/60, probably why i'm so tired. and since it's really good for the ibs, recommends that i do it at the beginning of every month as a maintenance. really?? oh man... i don't know if i can do this every month. maybe every other month.
after i got home, i ran to the bathroom and found out why it's called a "CLEANSE"..... nuff said.
DAY 5: that's today. i'm motivated! i'm happy! i made it! i't s the last day! YAAAYYYY! i can't wait to order a big fat pizza tomorrow!!!!! today's my last day today's my last day todays' my last day!
NOTE: i didn't do this to lose any weight. BUT, i have been losing about about an average of 1 pound per day. so if you wanna lose some weight and cleanse out every month AND lower your blood pressure AND your cholesterol, go ahead and try it. it does teach you some patience though. lol
ok.... time to start some probiotics now after all those ANTIbiotics for the kidney infection.... take care y'all!

I could hear the energy & excitement in your post. So so happy this is working for you!
If a raw diet is making you feel so much better why would you stop?
have lost 19 pounds since November...
am BIG into Veggies and Fruits...I prefer raw, but at times will steam them lightly...
Blue, glad your tummy is feeling so much better!
HUGS from down south :)
Sure glad you are feeling btter though thats great.....
all the best julie
well ladies, for all you that are starting this diet/ cleanse, good luck to you and please keep us posted!
oh and to answer the question why don't i continue this? because i can't live on blood pressure of 97/60. i'm constantly tired. but maybe if i modified it a bit to where i can put some protein in it, i just might be able to do it more often. we'll see. i'll have to play with it some and let you know.
take care for now y'all and God bless!
I try to juice every day but lately, I've knocked off a bit. I juiced today and I feel so much better. No carbs at dinner make for a better night's sleep for me.
It's amazing how much difference your diet can make, but really, we are what we eat, eh?

I admire you for sticking to the 5 day raw thing. I don't know if I could live without caffien or meat. I need my protein.

this diet had my tummy feelin the best in years and it was darn well worth it. i hope it works this good for you too.
When I was first dx'd with celiac disease, I made the huge mistake of eating lots of rice and potatoes as they were cheap, quick, and easy. Gained about 35 pounds in a year's time and felt so bloated all of the time.
Then in 7/09 was dx'd with diabetes2 (probably from all the rice and potatoes, lol) as I don't eat junk food because of the celiac - have to go gluten free on everything.
But, the diabetic diet (limiting carbs to no more than 45 per meal) made a huge difference! Also, I eat a lot of salads with spinach and whatever else is in the fridge that is healthy and 'allowed' so my IBS has disappeared with all the diet changes I was forced to make. Amazing! Since I can't eat 'regular' pasta, or anything with wheat flour, it made it easier to go on the low carb diet - as there are many hidden carbs in a lot of different foods, even fruits.
Glad this worked for you, if nothing else, just keep eating those veggies, it will work wonders on your digestive system, for sure!
