side effects wore off after a week or so. An increase made me jittery, irritated, something like that. Felt better after a couple of weeks. Full effect took 3 mos. to kick in. Haven't tried to go off. Hope I won't have to.
. Have you tried Savella?? Just a suggestion
Doctors will say you can titer down about every two weeks, but if you've been on it for more than a few months it's best to go 4-6 weeks between titering down. Having worked as a nurse I've seen what people can go thru with withdrawals so I'd rather play it safe than sorry comming off it.
It's helped soooo much with the mood swings and pain. I've also been one of those who've lost weight on it. Unfortunately not every med works for every person so it's good to weigh the risks and benefits. For me the benefits outweigh the risk.
The first four weeks were the hardest on it. I had the odd taste in the mouth, dizziness, sweats, and fatigue. My emotions were up and down some too. The first week on it a and the third week when I went up were challenging. After that I evened out.
if you have been in bed does it really matter? You will probably be on it for life too, but if it helps thats all that matters.
I recently started on Lyrica and found it very helpful for pain and fog, but I cant afford it and there are never any samples at my MD's. I am going to ask my new social worker if she will try and get for me.
I also started taking Morphine a couple of months ago. When I was on both it and Lyrica my pain was low, I could almost dance again lol.
I resisted taking narcotics for 3 years, but had NO life due to the pain and exhaustion. Find now that if i reduce the pain and tireness is reduced as well.
Good luck :)
Before gettting Fibro 3 years ago, I never took any meds, now my new MD kids around that he is a pharmacy.
I have been on cymbalta for 7 yrs now and I find if I just miss one day I get brain shocks nausea headaches dizziness and I become very irritable, so I would say yes it's vey difficult to come off them
I have been super sensitive to meds since I was a baby. My dosage would have to be cut in half so I would not have adverse reactions. That being said.....
My dr thought I had Sjogren's syndrome too and sent me to a rheumatologist. Not finding evidence greater than symptoms of the Sjogren's, he suggested I try Cymbalta or Savella for my fibromyalgia. Then he mentioned they were antidepressants. I told him the story above so he suggested I start with the Cymbalta 30 mg and go up to 60 if I can.
Day 1 and 2 I HATED it!!! I could not wake up. I had to lie down and take a nap at work. So I worked it around to where I take it at night. Day 3 I stayed in bed and slept all day. Day 4 I didn't do too bad. Day 5 until now, day 13, I feel really good. Got me to thinking maybe I was a little depressed but a functional type of depression. I have trouble with waking up about 4-5 hours after I take it, wide awake at 1 or 2 am, but I've learned if I take a buspar I can usually go back to sleep for a couple hours. I have averaged one hydrocodone every other day, if that. My pain level is totally manageable now.
I pray it continues this way on the 30 mg. I worry about it reversing at day 15 and causing me depression or it starting to cause me to be up all night and having to switch back to day time.
I am experiencing bad constipation and extremely deep yawns allllllll day long. But I can take some fiber and keep excusing myself it means a meaningful life that I enjoy living again.
Good luck.
:)
I also had the severe headache like dehydration on day 2 and dry mouth. I started drinking a lot of water and it killed the headache. I had dry mouth and eyes to start with, hence going to rheumatologist for sjogrens, but it is a lot worse now. I take several drinks of water during the night now as well.
Thanks for reading and any suggestions are welcome!!!!!!
