there is a lot in there i think most of us would really benefit from seeing. i'm just saving the podcast know and will copy it onto cd for my drs and therapist.
one key thing i got from it is they recommend drs use 4 things to treat their patients with fibro:
1. education
2. exercise
3. cognitive behavioural therapy
4. medications
there's a lot more to the video than just drugs. in fact they basically say if you only do drugs you wont get better. i think most of us have found the same thing.
My neighbor has it too, and she just lays around for days will not try any physical therapy or yaga complains about how bad she feels all the time. I can not get through to her. her husband is ready to leave her. I have tried to explain to her the more she lays around not doing anything the worse she is going to feel in the end. I still have flares and or bad days, but they do not come as often as they once did. so what I am saying is do what you can, listen to your body, and rest when you need too. but the most important thing is we need rem sleep, when you get the proper rest everything else falls into place.
I talk about this a lot in my paying for FM post. We pay for it in SO may ways besides just the cost of our Dr. visits. The creams, the clothes, the beds, the vacation time of our spouses (and their incomes for that matter), the time of family and friends. The cost is SO high already. I'm desperately wanting to send my child to a Gymboree Class because we just bought a house in a new neighborhood, but there are no little kids around and I feel very isolated. I want to meet other moms with kids his age. But of course the classes are expensive, about $60/week. So is a yoga class. I can choose one or the other. Sometimes it comes down to these tough choices, choosing for yourself or your family and sometimes, I feel it is my families turn to win out you know?
Anyway, overall though I really did think it was a good video.
The "doctor" said that the oldest patient he has seen was 55...well, my mom is 65 and has Fibro. I didn't get why he stressed that this is primarily a woman's illness? What difference does this make?
No mention of what the heck she is taking either! She obviously doesn't have chemical intolerance. Good for her that she is still able to exercise and doesn't let it get her down. It's sounds like she had depression, rather than Fibro. Depression can cause pain and fatigue.
i think to question the diagnosis and pain levels of any of the 3 women is the kind of undermining insult that most of us would get very angry about if it was done to us. yet some people are happy to do that to 3 other fibro patients.
um, and the 'doctor' as you put it is one of 3 senior level professors - they would have to have 15 years training and at least another 10-15 years experience on top of that. i may be wrong, but i don't think you have achieved that level of professional ability and endorsement by your peers and employers?
i got pretty far along in my career before fibro made me take several steps back down the ladder, but you know what, after 20+ years of this, i'm ready to have an open mind, change my negative attitude, and follow the recommended exercise program. thats the biggest obstacle my entrenched negative attitude puts before recovery. the video helped me see that, so i am grateful for the chance to see it and get some hope.
Alot of us on here have watched the Entire Video...as it is an older one...they are making Exciting Changes...yea, meaning that they are Coming up with many more Drugs...but None that Actually help the cause of the Fibromyalgia, only Cover up the Pain...now temporarily, that is Fine...you need to do what you Need to do to get thru your days...but does the Thought of being on Pain Pills, Nerve Nills, Anti Depressants, Anti Anxiety, Muscle Relaxors, Sleeping Pills, RLS pills for the very Rest of your Life Appeal to you ?? or would you rather they spend their Time {And our Money} on researching What is causing This, and replacing That ??
Taking some of these Meds...thru a Short Term...to help you thru...I can Agree with...but many are not, and becoming Increasingly either Dependent On OR Addicted to...and many are not In fact being helped anyway...Many are like me, Med. Sensative...or Simply have chosen Not to use them, with the Fear of the side effects, or dependency weighing heavily on ones Mind.
Their Advancements are Strictly with the Treatment, Not the Cause of. and Most of these Treatments are Drug based...and Everyone Knows you have to Move, Exercise, makes No matter in What your Ailment is, or if you have No Ailments at All...you have to Move, Exercise, or you are setting yourself up for a Whole Host of Issues that have nothing to Do With Fibromyalgia...
I have staed my Opinion, I am Not Sure Why My Opinion of this Video upsets you so Much Mystery...I am as Entitled to one as anyone on here...have urself a fine day...
