It felt more like "hey my meds are working better" than "hey I'm better."
I believe everyone should be tested for nutritional deficiencies before they are diagnosed with fibromyalgia.
ius a day, which later was increased to 20,000 ius a day. My blood work is monitored by my doctor every 3 months.
I used to get this horrible, deep bone aching pain that was eliminated after several months of supplementation. My doctor said that optimum levels are between 70-100; especially for chronic pain
patients. It took over a year to get my vitamin d level to 54.
I am still supplementing daily with 10,000 ius, under my doctors guidance. In addition to supplementing with magnesium; I was told to take vitamin d with a fatty meal for better absorption.
Supplementing with vitamin d is crucial, but must be monitored by a doctor if taking high levels.
If you purchase over the counter make sure it's D3.
I am not low in magnesium. I don't take any supplements anymore without getting tested first. And even if the doctor says I need to take a supplement I have to check it out thoroughly. You wouldn't believe what they put in some OTC supplements these days.
My PCP had no idea there was a connection between muscle pain and Vit D so I never would have been tested if I hadn't asked.
For the most part I think insurance is to blame. My doc said if I wasn't showing symptoms of any kind he wouldn't get paid for the test.
Problem is most doctors have little if any training in nutrition so they don't know the symptoms when they see them. Definitely a vicious circle.
I read an article a few years back on Vit deficiency in people with FM and then asked to be tested. It was not something my doctor would have done normally.
