Severe medical condition and family is neglecting
I'm 18-years-old, in Australia. I suffer very severe, brittle asthma. So brittle that despite being on the max safe dose of any kind of asthma med, I've had so many attacks that my condition changes on a daily basis. I cannot possibly predict what day will be good and what day I might have an attack.
4 weeks ago my mother dropped me off at the ER for my asthma. In this instance I was taken into resus. My mother left after an hour or so. My condition deteriorated and I went into type 2 respiratory failure. They called her and asked her to come back in because they didn't think I was going to make the next few hours.
She drove back. And due to the efforts of the doctors, I (obviously) made it through. I spent 5 days in ICU and another 6 days on the ward before being discharged.
I was then re-admitted a week later because I began deteriorating again. Again in resus and admitted to ICU. Though this time I only faced a 5-day-stay, one day in ICU and 4 in the ward.
I was discharged roughly a week ago now. Today I was quite physically active, cleaning the house thoroughly. After perhaps an hour of cleaning (using chemicals such as bleach to clean as well), my asthma started causing some issues. So I stopped and went to bed for a bit.
My asthma is continuing to gradually decline again. My mother is well aware of how I am right now.
Yet she turned around to me (in front of my partner as well) and claimed that she believes I'm (if not faking) exaggerating my asthma immensely. When we were talking (I can say a maximum of 5 words at a time at the moment) she would stop me half way through the sentence and exclaim 'See! You can speak perfectly fine. It's all in your head. When you're not focused on it, you're fine.'
So despite her seeing me on ventilation and unconscious in respiratory failure only a month ago, she believes this.
I have no doubt in my mind I WILL die from the level of neglect my condition has in the household. I take my meds and do what I need to do, but when I'm experiencing an exacerbation, my mother doesn't 'believe' me. The other week I couldn't speak and I went pale and my mouth went blue and she was insistent that a couple deeps breaths will do (when I couldn't move any air at all!) when I got to the hospital, my oxygen saturation was at 79, my heart rate at 160 and I was feeling almost dilerious.
I can't drive myself to the ER because my condition crashes very quickly and acutely from the onset of an exacerbation. I cannot call an ambulance for myself because I get to a point where I simply cannot speak. And my mother is confident I'm faking.
I tried explaining to her the potential consequences for her negligence of my condition, but that has had no influence on her.
Honestly stuck between a rock and a hard place with my mother at the moment. And to be plain and simple, I'm not hoping to die anytime soon at 18. I'm really unsure with what to do.

Due to my increased paranoia, anxiety, and a panic attack over the weekend, my psychiatrist has put me back in a full dose of Zyprexa until further notice. Every time I think I'm getting ahead something happens and it's back to square one. I knew he was gonna do this but I can't help feeling disappointed. It is what it is.

Well, good morning to you!Today is National Roller Coaster Day. Are any of you going? It's also National Tell-A-Joke Day! Come up with some and share!I'm not bright with jokes these days, but I'll start:"Today I ordered a chicken and an egg from Amazon...I'll let you know." :D

At that point, you could either look into having your own apartment, or being able to pay your parents some rent. Either way, it probably isn't a good idea for you to be cleaning with chemicals.
If you go to the hospital again and are living with your mother I would ask for the doctor or a nurse to explain to her what is and isn't good for your well being.... big hug.....xo
