Family Issues Support Group
Family issues is a huge range that go from minor conflict to major misbehaviour and even abuse on the part of individual members of the family occur. Whether you feel you are in a dysfunctional family or you're dealing with a very specific issue, this is the place to talk about it and find others who might be going through the same thing.
My first post on me venting; feedback welcomed.
I live at home with my mother and it's very difficult. She doesn't work (not disabled). She is too "ashamed" to work fast food. I work and i'm a 21 year old college student. She always asks me to buy her things, and if i dont she talks bad about me or curses me out until i give in. Then when im low on cash, she will complain about how i always spend money and need to learn how to save money. She also talks crap about the guy that i date and she hasnt even met him yet (and i really dont want her to meet him.EVER). She told me that i should have higher standards because he doesnt have a car at the moment. It pissed me off because in my opinion, a car is a form of materialism. Love is not. Im not about to stop loving him just because he doesnt have a car. He was in a horrible accident, and thank God he made it out untouched. His car can be replaced but not him. I just feel like my mother was out of line. I refuse to take relationship advice from her becauses she is single, never been married, and cant keep relationships. She is single because she sets her standards high and has nothing to offer. She always talks about the type of man she wants (tall, rich, handsome). Thats a fantasy. How can you set the bar high like that when you have no job or no education? I cant judge him at all. We are both college students trying to succeed, and we help motivate each other. If i lived in a luxury penthouse, drove a brand new range rover, and had a 6 figure salary, then yes i would set my standards higher.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

I'm very sorry you are going through this. Has your relationship with your mother always been this way?
I think one of the reasons your mother is negative/hard towards you is because of what she sees in herself. She disappointed with herself and where she is in life and then there's you; young, free, happily working and in a relationship.
I don't know what your relationship is like with your mother based off this post alone but from what I've read I think you should stay focus on the things that make you happy, keep your mind off the negative things that may be going on at home until you're able to move out. Are you planning on moving out anytime soon? If not, have a sit down with your mother and talk to her.
