Has anyone out there had to deal with Mental Child Abuse. Many in my family believe that several of the grandchildren are being abused - at least mentally if not physically and mentally.
About two years ago it was brought to the couples attention that we felt the "hubby" was abusive to both the kids (all girls) and our daughter. She of course defended him ... and then pulled away from us. We have recently started seeing our daughter and the grandkids... occassionally ... but they recently went on a two week vacation with the biological mom ... and some of the stories that we heard has us very concerned that things haven't improved, but may be worse.
The "husband" even said he was glad his exwife died ... IN FRONT OF THEIR DAUGHTER -- who is 17 and mom has only been gone for 2 years and they were very close.
What i'm trying to asertain is How do you truly know Mental Abuse ? Anyone?

My answer to you is that the signs are there.
If the father was callous enough to say something like that in front of his children in front of other people he is probably doing much much worse behind closed doors.
Your daughter defending him and pulling away from you is a good indication as well.

The children and the mother will withdraw rather than try to deal with the abuser directly. The wife, especially, will live in fear of retaliation on his part and avoid that confrontation at any cost, even if it means losing family and friends. She has, in effect, painted herself into a corner in a house of cards just waiting to topple down. In staying with this man she has become a collusive mother in a deadly home life situation. Eventually, the children will see her for what she is and take off from home the first chance they get. I'm sorry to see this happening to anyone else. I guess some things never change, sadly.

If you suspect that your grandchildren are being abused mentally, or otherwise....you should take action. Children cannot defend themselves against abuse. You also have an option to report it anonymously, but look into the situation, rather than ignore it.
